Limewire is absolutely free software for P2P downloads. You can upgrade it with Pro version for a one-time cost of $18.88.
There is nothing illegal about the software. You cannot share copyrighted stuff which is illegal. Most people found this as the easy tool for sharing all files like music, games, softwares, etc. with complete strangers.
The issue is only with copyrighted files. The software is fine, but you cant share illegal (copyrighted) products.

Limewire is not illegal, but downloading copyrighted material is. You can just read the disclaimer for more information. If you download something and sell it for profit, then its illegal.

Some people say its illegal because most files on limewire are copyrighted. But it is also good source for hackers to get personal information of users.
