Receivers unable to open Word documents

None of the recipients to whom I send message with the attachment of Word document is able to view this attachment. I am using Microsoft Word 2007 and thought this might be the problem. But then many people told me that the version of MS Word doesn't matter. Then what is the problem?

You are working with Word 2007. In order for others to open the attachment, and if they do not have 2007, then they would need to download the Word 2007 viewer.

Re: unable to open word 2007 if sent as an email attachment?

From Word 2007, you can save your documents in the older .doc format -- on the Save As menu in the Office button, select "Word 97-2003 Format". (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...2561033.aspx#4)

Or your recipients can install the Compatibility Pack (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...44731033.aspx), but I wouldn't count on them doing anything just to be able to read what you send them.

Re: Receivers unable to open Word documents

Could it be that some of your recipients don't have Office 2007 and because of new formatting they may need this:

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    Overview
Users of the Microsoft Office XP and 2003 programs Word, Excel, or PowerPoint—please install all High-Priority updates from Microsoft Update before downloading the Compatibility Pack.

By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able to open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats. For more information about the Compatibility Pack, see Knowledge Base article 924074.

Note: If you use Microsoft Word 2000 or Microsoft Word 2002 to read or write documents containing complex scripts, please see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925451 for information to enable Word 2007 documents to be displayed correctly in your version of Word.

Re: Receivers unable to open Word documents

When you have a document in office 2007 (.docx) that you want previous versions of office to be able to open, do the following:
    1. Open the file

    2. Go to the round office button in the upper left

    3. Go to save as

    4. Choose where you want to save it as you normally would

    5. Now there will be an drop down menu on the bottom center of the save dialogue, it will say .docx, office 2007 document or somthing simmilar to that.

    6. Choose the aforementioned drop down menu and choose somthing that says "office 97-2003 compatibible document" or somthing simmilar to that.

    7. Choose save ---the doc will be saved as a .doc document , this file will be able to be opened by those who own a copy of office 97 or newer version

Unless the recievers have Word 2007, save your doc in the older Word format, not the new .docx format. See the same topic here http://forums.techarena.in/ms-office-support/885077.htm
