Laptop usb problem

I have compaq nx 7400 Laptop. It hangs whenever I try to use any of the 2 USB Ports. I first noticed the problem when I wanted to copy document from pendrive.There is a interenal Card Reader which works fine. But I want to use USB Ports also I did System Restore for an appropriate date. It shows System has not undergone any change.I have been searching for a solution to this problem. Please help!

have you got any yellow icon "?" marks in device manager on USB controllers, if so right click on it and update drivers.

all my devices are shown working fine in device manager.

you can try formatting Os then it may help you.
