WiFi connectivity problem on my laptop

Hi i am using have a pci wireless network adapter linksys WMP54g,and when i use it instead of ethernet,some internet applications cannot connect to the internet.uTorrent work without a problem but browsers like internet explorer and Mozilla Firefox can not connect at all.
My laptop has no problem with any internet applications over wireless,I think problem only seems to affect my desktop.

I am not a big expert,but first thing to check is that your wireless router has enough channels. Most of them have only one channel so a connection that actually assigns your desktop an IP address may be lacking. I think that would be the case.

As you are saying that your laptop wireless connect and not your desktop.you may not have the desktop network configured correctly to include both wired and wireless networks.And then enable the wireless one when you are not plugged in.i think you would need 2 separate connections in your My Network area.you would need a wireless one, and a Local area Connection one for the wired one.
