    Differences between Java Card and Smart Card

    I have read a smart card in Java to retrieve data. I manage to communicate with a smart card reader plugged into the COM port. I can read or write data on the smart card. I want to know if it is possible to communicate with a smart card reader connected to USB. What is the differences between Java Card and Smart Card ? Please help.

    Smart Card is simple storage medium. The first use of mass has been the calling card: stock points decremented on each call. It can be read-only. With the increase of memory chips, it can be used to store more important data (ID cards in some countries, medical records ...). But the features are limited. Data protection is not assured.

    As with computers, each card will have its own architecture virtual machine. The JavaCard virtual machine is identical to that of Java, but is divided into two parts: one on the card, the other off-card (Java Card Converter "). The first field of applications has been the bank card. Cryptographic features are added to these maps, which nonetheless memory. Since the increased power of their CPU and memory size, number of applications that can be embedded is (almost) without limit.
