What is Servlet container?

Hello friend,

I am new to the advanced java programming. In which the servlet seems very tough to understand. Servlet runs at server side. I am not getting what is 'Servlet container'. What is the use of 'Servlet container'?. I have searched various programming websites for this but didn't get more details about it. If you have knowledge about the 'Servlet container', then please try to share with me. I will appreciate your help.

Servlets can also be used to add server side functionality. Servlets run in a servlet container, which makes the link between servlets and the Web server. Servlets are loaded automatically when the server starts or when the first client connection, then they remain in memory and manage applications via the mechanism of Threads. Conversely, a scripting language creates a new process for each HTTP request, its enforcement is more heavy for the processor and takes up more space in memory.

Re: What is Servlet container?

A servlet requires a servlet container to run. To use a servlet, we must first install a servlet container on the Web server, which will manage the lifecycle of the servlet. It will access the necessary methods to call, execution and suppression of the servlet. There are Web servers that include support for servlets. As examples of servlet container embedded include Apache Tomcat, Web Services Enterprise Edition iPlanet (Netscape), Website, Zeus Web Server, Java Web Server from Sun or Weblogic.

Any code initialization that you should use be placed in the method init () since this method is called only if the servlet is loaded using 'servlet container'. servlets are far more powerful than scripts because they are pseudocode, automatically loaded when the server starts or when connecting the first client. One of the main strengths of servlets is the reusability (reuse), to create components encapsulating similar services, so you can reuse in future applications.

Re: What is Servlet container?

The servlet container can be embedded in another application, for acting as a server.Tomcat can be used only as a servlet container, and thus be connected to other web servers. The advantage of applets and servlets is in their nature by creating reusable components encapsulating services to be usable in other applications. Moreover, as are Java applications, they can access all Java APIs. There are additional servlet containers that function as plug-in installed on the server.

Re: What is Servlet container?

Hi friend,

We call servlet container class for manipulating the servlet. Servlets run in a servlet engine used to establish the link between the servlet and web server. A servlet is a bit like an applet by the fact it has an init () method which acts as that manufacturer. Since the servlet environment takes care of instantiating the servlet, a manufacturer explicit is not necessary. To share variables between pages Your servlets and JSP, you need to know how to create and access these variables from your servlet.
