Re: What are the uses of XML
There are multiple uses of XML. For today the same is widely used and comptible to many web features. It is used as a File to exchange structured data between applications and heterogeneous platforms. In XML data storage does not require a RDBMS. That means it is a single file. It is widely used and lot more easier to configure.

Re: What are the uses of XML
XML database uses the query language XQuery. Separation of data / codes for a website (couple XML / XSLT) is possible in it. It includes vocabulary of some specialized languages such as MathML (computing), SVG (vector graphics), etc. After HTML it is the most widely used language. It is not related only to web development but also database management.

Re: What are the uses of XML
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is responsible for the creation and development of specifications surrounding XML via the XML Working Group. This group is composed of experts from various fields (often recruited by co-option) . XML is a public company does not own any of its development. The v1.0 specification was approved by the W3C

Re: What are the uses of XML
The W3C develops only specifications, not implementations. This is not because a specification has been published that are using the tools, conversely, the developers still do not expect that the final specification is to implement it. The W3C specifications is not standards, as used in the industrial world, but decided on consensus between the main software vendors and large corporate users, to avoid anarchy of Web technologies mutually incompatible.
