Re: Installing SQL 2008 on Windows 2003

I do not think any feature will get missed while installing SQL 2008 on Windows server 2003 coz Server 2003 supports a maximum of 8 fail over cluster nodes whereas Windows Server 2008 supports a maximum of 64 fail over cluster nodes. Here are the steps you need to follow to install SQL 2008 on Windows 2003:-
  • First of all insert the SQL Server 2008 into the DVD drive and go to Server components than click on Tools click Books Online and than click on Samples.

  • Accept the license agreement for .Net 2.0 and install it.

  • Again you need to accept the license agreement and install the prerequisites.

  • Click New Installation to launch the Installing SQL Server 2008 Wizard. The system configuration check completes almost instantly. Select the features you need to install. For a basic initial installation, install the Database Engine
  • and Client Tools, as we did. You can install additional components later as necessary.

  • Now on the prompted screen, enter the account information and data file locations. Install. At the confirmation screen, click Next.

  • At the Complete screen, note the Summary log file location, and click Close to complete the install.

Re: Installing SQL 2008 on Windows 2003

Installation requirements vary based on your application needs. The different editions of SQL Server accommodate the unique performance, runtime, and price requirements of organizations and individuals. The SQL Server components that you install also depend on your specific requirements. To allows SQL Server to retain its data in physical memory instead of swapping the data to virtual memory, the page file, or disk windows Server 2003 needs a setting. To reduce the attackable surface area of a system, SQL Server selectively installs and activates key services and features.Follow this steps:-
  • Click Start.
  • Go to Administrative Tools than Local Security Policy.
  • Click Local Policies Click User Rights Assignment.
  • Scroll down to Lock pages in memory, and double-click it.
  • Click Add User or Group, and enter the SQL Server service
  • account name.

Re: Installing SQL 2008 on Windows 2003

To verify a successful installation of SQL Server 2008, ensure that the services for the components you choose to install are running on your computer. If the service is not running, start it by right-clicking the service, and then clicking Start. If a service fails to start, look at the service properties for the path to the .exe. Make sure the .exe exists in the specified path.
