http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/

This is the link that will make you understand how to install it properly for php.

According to the website - phpMyAdmin is a free software tool written in PHP intended to handle the administration of MySQL over the World Wide Web. phpMyAdmin supports a wide range of operations with MySQL. The most frequently used operations are supported by the user interface (managing databases, tables, fields, relations, indexes, users, permissions, etc), while you still have the ability to directly execute any SQL statement.

Re: How to add mysql database to localhost?

Hi,

Very first thing try to find out the sql error.

$link_id = mysql_connect($DBhost,$DBuser,$DBpass)
if (!link_id){die("Unable to connect to database".mysql_error());}

Now this will find out the reason behind the error.

If you are running windows xp then please check if mysql-deamon is running.
look for mysqld-nt.exe
go to control panel - Admin tools & see if mysql is started?
