If you have the permissions or admin rights as cluster administrator in the SQL Server, then a server cluster allows you to connect a number of physical servers or nodes that act as failover partners for each other. The redundancy a cluster provides spells more uptime for your critical
    operations.

Re: Cluster Administrator Permissions in SQL Server

Clustering is one of the most important features in Windows SQL Servers. It serves three main advantages :

    • Scalability: Windows Server 2003 clusters support upto 8 processors (32 processors in the Datacenter Edition) and a maximum of 8 GB RAM (64 GB in the Datacenter Edition).

    • Availability: A properly installed and configured cluster provides continued operation during hardware failure, software failure, and/or planned maintenance.

    • Manageability: Windows Server 2003 allows administrators to manage all resources within the entire cluster from one MMC.

    Installing the cluster :
When you install Windows 2003 Server, the Cluster Administrator is installed by default. You simply need to launch the Cluster Administrator to begin configuring your cluster. You can do this by going to Start | Administrative Tools | Cluster Administrator. When installing a new cluster, you no longer have to reboot, which is a great time saver.

Re: Cluster Administrator Permissions in SQL Server

I have SQL Server 2005. For installing SQL Server 2005 setup, it requires administrator permissions on every cluster node. Also, to update permissions for the account currently running Setup, or log in with an account that has administrator permissions on every cluster node, and then run SQL Server Setup again.
