Streaming with VLC

Hello everybody,

I installed a server with filezilla FTP server, then I have access to videos. avi. Until the great nothing
I assumed that VLC is possible to open these videos (open a network stream, etc. ...).
So I chose my protocol (FTP) I copy the address of a video, and of course it does not start

I do not know where from this little problem because in this manip absolute must operate .... I suppose

If you already have this problem, have a few solutions, I'm interested

Good Day to all and thank you in advance

Re: Streaming with VLC

To read the music or videos from a stream server. (for Audio ago icecast or shoutcast for example, I do not know about the video). It seems to me that we can disseminate it with vlc .

Note that you can also simply upload your video to your ftp, and begin to read the downloaded file with vlc before the download is complete.

Re: Streaming with VLC

I know it is a bit late, but I just saw this thread and I thought I could share some experience.

I recently installed Cerberus FTP server and tried to stream FTP video (AVI files) from the FTP server using the VLC video player. And it worked very well. I was in fact very surprised. You could even jump forward or backward and the FTP server would support it.

I then uninstalled Cerberus to install Filezilla FTP Server. And when I tried the same thing with VLC, it did not work. The AVI file would open, the VLC player would display few video frames (1-2 seconds of video), and the connection would abort. That was systematic. I don't know why, but it simply did not work.

I good test would be to capture a network trace (with Wireshark) with both FTP servers and see what is different in how Cerberus and Filezilla deal with the VLC requests.

Ozo.
