How to convert date format in postgres

I am using postgres in php.I am trying to convert date entered by user as MM-DD-YYYY format to YYYY-MM-DD format.Can anyone give me a solution for this.

Sure i will help you out with this did you try to use todate method.

string date ( string $format [, int $timestamp ] )

int strtotime ( string $time [, int $now ] )
