| Lost Administrator password
Hi Guys I have a SBS 2003 server of which the user has lost the Administrator password for the server. Is there a way I can obtain this or reset via a boot disk of some kind. Many Thanks Steffan |

The following link provides some potential solutions Not fun: have a look at the following: http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...r_password.htm be sure to notice the difference between the domain admin and a local admin. |

Hi Guys this is worse than I though. I was sure that there was no password setup (blank) on the Admin account. when I used. When I used loginrecovery.com this confrimed that a blank password was on the account. But I still can't login has anyone come across this problem before or possibly has a windows update gone through that doesnt allow the server to have a blank password. Many Thanks I get The system could not log you on. Make sure the user name and domain are correct, and then type the password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case. I have now installed Admin pack on a pc on that domain. The strange thing I have noticed is if I go into the Domain Admin group it has a locked logo over the administrator account. However in the user list where is shows administrator it doesn't have this logo on it. Unfortunately I was unable to add a user to the domain admin group due the security privileges Hope that makes sense |

Nothing that I know of would prevent a blank password at the console. What errors/messages do you get when you try to logon at the console I am having the same problem, except our administrator password worked fine until today. Have you come up with any answers? |

I remember getting some Unix based disk that allowed me to change the local admin's password on an XP box which would probably work on SBS as well. You need to start the system from that disk and follow instructions from a readme.txt file. When I get home I'll check whether I still have that disk and post you the name of the software. Then you can just google it. The only thing I found of interest was in the Security log (I'm not sure if I've been hacked or not--Any thoughts?: |

| Re: Lost Administrator password
As it turned out, the above logs are related to user logons and the associated logging being turned on. I spent the last few hours on the phone with MS Support and they were similarly baffled. To reset the the account, we used an alternate user ID with Administrator rights, re-entered "Administrator" to the "User Logon Name" field, re-selected username@domainname.local and reset the password. In an effort to track future accurrances, we enabled logging of "Administrators" found in the Advanced settings of the Security Tab under Audit. |

Hi, guys. there is a professional third part utility for resetting windows password, which is windows password unlocker 4.0. I myself have used it long time ago, and it is very smart and effective. Past "windows password unlocker 4.0" onto google, and click the first result so you can free download it. |
