ShieldsUP. Solicited TCP Packets and Ping Reply. Should I be worri

Router: LinkSYS AG241 firmware v1.00.23
Running SBS2003 R2 Premium. ISA2004 SP3 and Exchange2003 SP2.

Just been on to http://probemyports.com/ and the test failed on: Solicited
TCP Packets and Ping Reply.

It also stated that the following HTTP 80 OPEN! and HTTPS 443 OPEN!

Should I be worried about this or what changes can I make to correct or
improve this!?

Solicited TCP - Just means you have ports open (DUH!)
Ping Reply - Means you have ICMP turned on.
Login to your Linksys Router and turn OFF ICMP PING Reply.

Port 80 (IMO should be closed)
And just teach people to use
https for RWW and OWA etc.

Common Ports open on SBS server
25 SMTP
443 RWW OWA (SSL Port)
444 Companyweb (SSL Port)
4125 RWW (Basically a reroute of 3389)
1723 VPN (PPTP)

You could either close port 80 on the router or run CEICW
(Since you are running ISA)
and Un Check the Business Website. Box
http://www.sbits.biz/CEICW_Web_Servi...figuration.jpg

That's about it

Is it worth doing? If you have no TCP/UDP ports open, replying to a ping
doesn't do any harm, and if you do have any Well-Known (1-1023) ports
open, they're easily found without pinging.

Disabling most other ICMP traffic is useful, but not many routers seem
able to do that.

Other than some spammers use tools that log ICMP responses and use for
attacks later on.
(Because ICMP response is faster than other checks if a IP is active.)

You can leave it on, but IMO it's off.
True, I don't think it will harm you, by leaving it on.
It's just like I don't carry my wallet in my back pocket in a crowd of

You can't turn ICMP/Ping off on the LinkSYS AG241!

I need to recheck and run the CEICW and untick the Business Website, don't
even need that! so that will close port 80.

And everyone is made to use https so no problem there!

Just like to check these things so thankyou for your replies.

Page 23 of the User Manual.
http://www-au.linksys.com/servlet/Sa...VisitorWrapper

In that router stopping ICMP ping reply is called.

"Block Anonymous Internet Requests"

And yup Sounds good :)

@Russ, spot on. Now here's the thing. I went on to LinkSYS online chat to
double check this and said 'how do I turn off ICMP' their tech said you
can't! Then I came across "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" which what I
thought it was but wasn't to sure based on LinkSYS tech. Thanks again Russ. :)

Well given the fact is they are only search for the word in the manual,
that's to be expected.

Most routers stop ICMP however the hardest part is finding WHERE!

So I'm now passing the Ping Echo and Unsolicited Packets but I'm still
failing on Solicited TCP Packets stating Port 443 is open.

I'm using RWW/OWA with a Thawte SSL certificate for the https

Is there any way of getting this set to stealth, or because I'm using
RWW/OWA its going to be shown as open!?

If you want OWA over https, then 443 must be open to connections. This is
expected behavior.
