| The Fax Configuration Wizard is unable to share the fax printer
Hello I'm having some trouble with an error message that keeps coming up any time I try to reconfigure or make any changes to the Fax services for SBS 2003. That is when I use the Configuration Wizard. I no the obvious answer is to stop using the wizard, hah hah hah. But for real, the message I keep getting is "The Fax Configuration Wizard is unable to share the fax printer. . . . . ext." Now here is the weird thing, I just added an incoming external fax modem ( U.S. Robotics 33.6 FAX EXT ), the same kind as the outgoing, and now after I restarted the server the Outgoing Fax Modem is no longer be seen by Windows. So I tried uninstalling an reinstalling it and it can't detect it any more. I finaly got around the reinstalling it and I can send faxes out, but if I try to change anything I still get the same error message as stated before. My honest opion is, I think the outgoing modem is bad, but I tested it and it seems to still works. Any thoughts or ideas on what to try or is there a perfered modem to use with SBS Server 2003 fax services that may correct this problem. Thanks |

This sounds like you have 2 Modems Sometimes with the same Type model the driver written for that device will only allow access to 1 FAX Modem at a time. Check with the Manufacture of the modem to see if this is the case. I suggest either a Multi Fax modem (Internal) or try another brand of fax modem Sorry Russ -- SBITS.Biz Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Microsoft Certified Small Business Specialist. | RE: The Fax Configuration Wizard is unable to share the fax printer
Hello Kenneth, Thank you for posting here and also thanks to Russ for the input. From your post, I understand that when attempting to configure Fax service, following error message is received: The Fax Configuration Wizard is unable to share the fax printer As for your issue, I would like to suggest that you perform the steps below to manually reinstall Fax Component: 1. Backup the following keys and files and then delete them. a) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax b) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Fax c) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\fax d) The 'SBSMIS-FAX.log'file under 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs'. e) The 'SBSMSI-faxcfg.log'file under 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs'. f) The 'faxsetup.log'file under 'C:\WINDOWS\'. 2. Access Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck 'Fax Services' to uninstall it. 3. Once it is uninstalled, access Add/Remove Programs to reinstall it. 4. Then, access 'Add/Remove Programs again', this time, we will click 'Change/Remove' on the 'Windows Small Business Server 2003' item: a) Click 'Next' on the 'Microsoft Windows Small Business Server Setup' page. b) Click 'Next' on the 'Windows Configuration' page. Note: It states that 'This will take approximately 30 minutes', it is referring to the total time it will take in the first SBS component installation. For the task such as remove a specific component, it will just take couple of minutes. c) Now, in the 'Component Selection' page, choose 'Remove' before the 'Fax Services' item. d) Click 'Next', and then click 'Next' again to confirm 'Component Summary'. You will be prompted to insert the SBS 2K3 setup Disc 1. 5. Once the removal process is completed, access 'Windows Small Business Server setup' again in 'Add/Remove Programs', proceed to the 'Component Selection' page, and then choose 'Install' for the 'Fax Services' item. If the problem still occurs after performing the 5 steps above, please gather (and zip) the newly created FAX setup & configure logs to v-mzhuan@microsoft.com: 1) All the log files under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs. 2) The 'faxsetup.log'file under 'C:\WINDOWS\'. 3) Please send me the Faxcfg.log file. Please try the above steps at your earliest convenience. If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.
