| Sync Errors - Redirected My Documents Folder
(Lanwench put me up to trying this but I went willingly :o). I have a SBS 2K3 server with SP1, Exch SP2, W2K3 SP2. The client I've been testing with is Win XP SP2. I enabled "My Documents Folder Redirection" and began to get errors during synchronization of folders. I've received two specific error messages: "Incorrect function" (with a big red "X") for files of type: .exe, .lnk, .jpg, .pdf, .xls, .vsd, .pspcache "Files of this type cannot be made available offline" (yellow delta with "!") .pst, .mdb, .dbf I don't understand these messages and have found no credible explanation for them. In the meantime, I've turned off redirection until I can learn what's going on here. All the files in these messages are usable; ie, they're not corrupted in any way I can discover. I've never understood that there were content restrictions on "My Documents" folders. If there are, I'd be grateful for a steer to the relevant KB article. Thanks, -- BilBo |

It's pretty self explanatory. You have folder redirection enabled, but you've also got offline files enabled - the latter is what's causing this problem. I see no value in offline files on a LAN-connected computer, and since I use a custom GPO to set up my folder redirection it's very easy for me to also disable offline files therein.. Computer Config -> Admin Templates -> Network -> Offline Files -> Allow or Disallow use of Offline Files Feature = Disabled (you could instead do this in the User section, note, but I prefer it here) > > In the meantime, I've turned off redirection until I can learn what's > going on here. Lanwench, I'd surely like to know how to set up custom GPOs to do this. I can deal with this problem without them but I'd just like to know. KB/Technet docs? Thanks for the explanation. I had Offline Files enabled on the client. I need to ponder that some but I can live with the excluded extensions. > >Computer Config -> Admin Templates -> Network -> Offline Files -> Allow or >Disallow use of Offline Files Feature = Disabled > >(you could instead do this in the User section, note, but I prefer it here) > >> >> In the meantime, I've turned off redirection until I can learn what's >> going on here. The main thing is to link policies where they need to go - in this case I'd do it at the MyBusiness OU level. > > Thanks for the explanation. I had Offline Files enabled on the > client.
