| Restore SharePoint Services from .mdf + .ldf We've rebuild a SBS2003 server and had SharePoint Services reinstalled. Now, we have the old copies of the: • STS_Config.mdf • STS_Config_log.ldf • STS_ServerName_1.mdf • STS_ServerName_1_log.ldf I've followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829113 to restore this using these files but after I've followed ALL the steps I'm getting this: Cannot complete this action. Please try again. Is there anything else anyone knows of I can try to restore the old SPS data back to a new installation of SBS2003, Active Directory, etc using these files? Thanks Chris |

Thanks for the help. Got so far through the steps but step 7 is: 7. Change the Site Collection Owner account. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint Central Administration Under Security Configuration, click Manage site collection owners. In the Web Site URL box, type http://companyweb , and then click View. In the User name box that is next to Site Collection Owner, change the username to be the new domain administrator account, and then click Check name. Click OK. As soon as I click OK it says: Cannot complete this action. Please try again. What else can I try? Thanks! Try the same step without clicking on the 'Check Name'. If that doesn't work, see if you can go to the next step. -- Costas "Chris" <Chris@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E5A78509-CD59-4175-91A4-C67077C07508@microsoft.com... > Thanks for the help. Costas, Thanks for the quick reply! It's the 1st staqge that it errors at. I type in http://companyweb and click View. It then says cannot complete this action. Also when I put in http://companyweb into IE7 it says the same thing. However, every step upto 7 worked. Any other ideas? Thanks Chris "Costas" wrote: > Try the same step without clicking on the 'Check Name'. | Re: Restore SharePoint Services from .mdf + .ldf
Costas, the the exact same server, it's just has SBS2003 reinstalled, so new Active Directory, etc. But we took a complete hard drive image before we reinstalled, hence why we have the .mdf and .ldf files. They mount fine in SQL to replace the default .mdf and .ldf files and I can see the old data but they just will not load into sharepoint. I've added domain users as the dbo (DB Owner) and given this group full rights, so unless another permission is needed I'm not sure what else there is to try. Please help! Chris, Ok, since this is a new installation see if the following article helps http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827701 Under normal circumstances you need the System State of the original server in order to perform the restore (btw, this is what I meant by saying 'same hardware'). The requirements for the procedure described in the article is for the server to have the same domain name as the original -- Costas "Chris" <Chris@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:861055B1-0E78-4575-ACA0-78C597AA6924@microsoft.com... > Costas, > > the the exact same server, it's just has SBS2003 reinstalled, so new > Active > Directory, etc. But we took a complete hard drive image before we > reinstalled, hence why we have the .mdf and .ldf files.
