| Remote Web Workplace and IE7 ActiveX error
I am having some difficulty with IE7 and Remote Web Workplace - both my XP Pro workstation and my SBS server are patched with everything from Microsoft update as of yesterday. I have added the self-signed SSL certificate to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities group and set the SBS public address in the Trusted Sites and set the Internet zone to Medium and Trusted Sites to Low. I went through the custom levels of both Internet and Trusted zone and enabled everything. I even removed the MSRDP ActiveX compatibility registry entry from the Registry. I continuiously receive the following error when trying to access the client computer connection page in RWW: "This portion of the Remote Web Workplace requires the Microsoft Remote Desktop ActiveX Control. Your browser's security settings may be preventing you from downloading ActiveX controls. Adjust these settings and try to connect again." I have the Vista compatibility pack installed on the SBS server like I saw recommended in another post but still no go. I've tried reregistering a ton of DLLs as suggested in another post and that did not hurt or help at all either. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks! |

Have you tried this: In IE7, Tools > Internet Options> Programs> Manage add-ons. Look for 'Microsoft Terminal Services Client Control (redist)' and make sure is set to 'Enabled'. |

I know I've seen this error before, and I know I struggled with resolving it, and I know I did fix it ... but after just 1 cup of coffee for the life of me I don't remember the solution. Hopefully, I can track it down. |

Try disabling all IE7 addons ... I believe the problem I had was due to either a toolbar (Yahoo/Google) or Adobe PDF toolbar addon. If RWW then works, then put back the addons one at a time until you discover the culprit. install the latest updates on the client. is there any anti virus software or firewall? disable all of them and check it again. |

Vanilla install of windows, no addons, no antivirus. Latest windows updates. Still having problems getting the activex control for RWW installed. One thing I remembered is that I am running the release candidate of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP Pro. I am wondering if there is something in the RC that breaks ActiveX in IE7. I haven't installed XP SP3. Maybe you could try to remove SP3 and check the issue again. Or even format c drive and reinstall XP. |

I followed what you said and found my RDP client DISABLED. I expect you know the rest I solved this problem too, but mine was a little bit different. I couldn't find any add-on from MS that I could enable, so I had to google around a little bit and I found this solution: "I have since learned that if I go into Internet Options, Advanced Tab and click RESET, the problem goes away. That essentially solves the problem of RWW access but I feel it is a bug. Customers should not have to struggle to find out they need to hit RESET in IE immediatly after installing the OS with XP Pro SP3. If you know of other solutions besides RESET mentioned above, I would love to know. Thanks for your help and time! |

I have had this exact same issue, and after much searching and testing, I finally solved it with the help of a number of different articles and a bit of guess work on my part, but I thought this may be useful to others. In my instance the Microsoft Terminal Services Client Control ActiveX add on did not appear in "Manage Add-on". No matter what I did, I could not get it to apprear. The solution that worked for me was to first add the RWW address to the trusted sites, close IE, and then delete the reg keys listed below, and then re-connect to the RWW, and it just worked Remove the following registry keys, if they exist: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{7584C670-2274-4EFB-B00B-D6AABA6D3850}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{971127BB-259F-48C2-BD75-5F97A3331551}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{9059F30F-4EB1-4BD2-9FDC-36F43A218F4A}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{4EB89FF4-7F78-4A0F-8B8D-2BF02E94E4B2}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{4EDCB26C-D24C-4e72-AF07-B576699AC0DE}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{7390F3D8-0439-4C05-91E3-CF5CB290C3D0} Also look for HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Activex Compatability\{7584C670-2274-4EFB-B00B-D6AABA6D3850} HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Activex Compatability\{971127BB-259F-48C2-BD75-5F97A3331551} HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Activex Compatability\{9059F30F-4EB1-4BD2-9FDC-36F43A218F4A} HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Activex Compatability\{4EB89FF4-7F78-4A0F-8B8D-2BF02E94E4B2} HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Activex Compatability\{4EDCB26C-D24C-4e72-AF07-B576699AC0DE} HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Activex Compatability\{7390F3D8-0439-4C05-91E3-CF5CB290C3D0} and delete any instances you find there. Then, as I say, just reconect to the RWW site, and it should hopefully work. Last edited by robertMH : 07-09-2011 at 07:38 PM. |
