| RE: SBS 2003 backup error
Hi crblanco, Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup. According to your description, I understand that you receive SBS 2003 backup error 0x800710d8. If it is not your concern, please don't hesitate to let me know. Based on my research,This error code "0x800710d8" means "The object identifier does not represent a valid object." To troubleshoot this issue, please help me collect the following information: 1. Which tape drive? Have you renewed your tapes?Additional,I think you should make sure the tape in the Microsoft HCL and there is no compatible issue. Check storage, Tape Drives compatibility link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/cat...ubID=22&xslt=c ategoryProduct&pgn=8a856b6f-a091-4b65-82c4-8de36550d285 2. What version of BKRUNNER .exe do you have?? It is located c:\program files\microsoft windows small business server\backup\bkprunner.exe You can check the version by simply putting the mouse cursor over the filename. It should be version 5.2.2651.1 3. Have you tried the 831664 hotfix? Windows Small Business Server 2003: KB 831664 This hotfix corrects the problem of NTBackup incorrectly choosing the backup tape type on a? drive that supports multiple tape types. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...&FamilyID=776e 1f61-0c9d-43ac-9936-49154995f596 4. Otherwise, this issue can occur if the internal Removable Storage Manager (RSM) database is corrupted. This corruption prevents media pools from being created or accessed. To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods to manually initialize or restore an uncorrupted RSM database. Method One If you have never performed a %SystemRoot% backup using Windows 2000 Backup, the %SystemRoot%\System32\Ntmsdata\Export folder does not exist. In this case, force the RSM to create a new database: a. Start the Computer Management tool, double-click Services and Applications, and then click Services. b. Locate and stop the Removable Storage service (or change the startup type from Automatic to Disabled), and then restart the computer. c. Start Windows Explorer, open the %SystemRoot%\System32\Ntmsdata folder, and then rename the existing files in this folder so that they have an .old file extension, or copy the files to a different folder. d. Restart the Removable Storage service (or change the startup type from Disabled to Automatic), and then restart the computer. After the RSM restarts, it creates a new database. Method Two If you backed up the %SystemRoot% folder using the Ntbackup tool before the RSM database was corrupted, force RSM to import the backup RSM database: a. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) b. Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\NTMS? c. If the ImportDatabase REG_DWORD exists, change the value of the ImportDatabase REG_DWORD from 0 to 0x1. If it does not exist, on the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following value: Value name: ImportDatabase Data type: REG_DWORD String: 1 Value: 0x1 d. Quit Registry Editor. e. Either stop and restart Removable Storage service, or restart the computer. When RSM starts, it reads the preceding registry key, and then forces the RSM database to be restored from the files located in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Ntmsdata\Export folder. 5. If the problem persists,Please?backup?use?Small Business Backup Script.bks .The Script is located at %sbsprogramdir%\backup folder. a. Click Start, click Run, type ntbackup, and then press Enter. The Backup or Restore Wizard launches. b. On the Welcome to the Backup or Restore Wizard page, click Advanced Mode. c.Click the Backup tab. From the Job menu, choose Load Selections. d.In the File Name box type %sbsprogramdir%\backup. e.Click Small Business Backup Script.bks to select, and click Open. On the Backup tab, click Start Backup. f.Can the problem be reproduced?
