    Grey Screen at Logon

Today I faced this problem for the second time hence thought to report you guys. It is SBS 2003 which works very fine normally but as I said the problem occurred second time, it is when I start the server and try loggin in I see a completely blank screen with gray color. This gray color is actually the desktop background color.

At the logon screen I can only see this blank gray screen but without logon box. Whenever I try anything to bring up the login box, instead the server reboots. Surprisingly in this period we can access the server from remote desktop. Any idea what is happening?

While searching for the help I came through these two articles describing the same problem with solution. I think you need to check them:

SBS 2003 fails to boot (Gray screen after Windows splash screen)

I strongly think that the problem is somewhere related to the antivirus software on SBS. So I’ll suggest you to uninstall the antivirus and see if the problem gets solved. If not, then check the following registry keys are available on your SBS. If not, you will need to create any missing one of these:

    • [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop] "ScreenSaveActive"="0".
    • [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Control Panel\Desktop] "ScreenSaveActive"="0"
    • [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Control Panel\Desktop] "SCRNSAVE.EXE"=""
    • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system] "disablecad"=dword:00000000
    • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "DisableCAD"=dword:00000000
