| long delay for Applying Computer Settings
Hello. I spent several hours working on an SBS2003 server for a new client today. It is running SBS2003, with Windows Server 2003 SP1 applied and SBS2003 SP1 applied. Someone else originally setup the server, and we are taking over. They had several issues. I was able to solve all but one. When restarting the server, it sits for 10-15 minutes on Applying Computer Settings. I have seen this before but none of the obvious things were wrong in this case. - NIC card priority order in Advanced Networkign is correct. - Single NIC, and it points to itself for primary DNS - Ran NETDIAG, and there were no errors or issues displayed. I did some Google searches, and came across Microsoft KB221833 which turns on debug logging. Some folks suggested that might provide a clue. Looking at the resulting Userenv.log file, I see about an 8-minute gap between two rows. Here is a copy & paste from that section, along with several lines above and below ====== SERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:187 LoadUserProfile: Entering, hToken = <0x778>, lpProfileInfo = 0xa3b4c0 USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:187 LoadUserProfile: lpProfileInfo->dwFlags = <0x1> USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:187 LoadUserProfile: lpProfileInfo->lpUserName = USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:187 LoadUserProfile: NULL central profile path USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:187 LoadUserProfile: NULL default profile path USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:203 LoadUserProfile: NULL server name USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:203 LoadUserProfile: User sid: S-1-5-21-2349121324-282742900-2452908356-500 USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:203 CSyncManager::EnterLock USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:203 CSyncManager::EnterLock: No existing entry found USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:203 CSyncManager::EnterLock: New entry created USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:203 CHashTable::HashAdd: S-1-5-21-2349121324-282742900-2452908356-500 added in bucket 18 USERENV(310.350) 19:58:32:203 LoadUserProfile: Wait succeeded. So, I should have been more clear. The problem is only happening on the server itself, not the workstation PCs. The problem happens prior to actually seeing the login window - so trying different users does not make a difference. Lloyd |

Ipconfig looks OK. Braodcom NetExtreme NIC could be problematic (at least it can be with Windows 2003 SP2 installed). If you re-run CEICW, does it complete successfully and/or fix the problem? Anything in the EventLogs? And if you disconnect the server's network cable, it boots much faster? Are there any external devices (USB drives, etc.) that you can disconnect to see if they affect the boot performance? You might also try installing and running the SBS 2003 BPA...
