| SBS 2k3 Unable to re-install SBSMonitoring Service/MSDE
Greetings. Where I am at: SBS Monitoring has been completely removed via instructions posted several times on this board (Setup/Maintenance/Remove, Uninstall MSDE Monitoring, Delete registry keys, Delete IIS Virtual Directory, rename folders). The re-installation of monitoring fails every time with a single event log error. . . "Source:MsiInstaller, Category:None, Type:error, EventID:1013 Description: Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine -- Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup error logs for more information." After checking the setup log in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Support\MSDE_SBSMonitoring.log the only part of it that seems relevant to me is towards the end. . . "Property(S): ProductToBeRegistered = 1 === Logging stopped: 4/15/2005 16:45:42 === MSI (s) (88:E4): Note: 1: 1708 MSI (s) (88:E4): Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine -- Installation operation failed." .. . .followed by installation cleanup references. Am approaching wits end as I either cannot seem to get any useful information from Knowledge Base or Google. |

Maybe try disabling your antivirus software before reinstalling... Much to my chagrin I was failing to disable Anti-Virus services prior to re-installation. Unfortunately doing so did not change my inability to reinstall Monitoring services. I do appreciate the included link to Google-Beta Groups tho. Was not aware of that particular resource. Any other suggestions? I'm afraid neither of those yeilded any joy either Merv. There was no referenced instance of SBSMonitoring to get the instance number to run the msizap utility against which by default meant there was no instance to delete for SBSMonitoring to delete as remarked on in the link you last provided. Merv, I appreciate your efforts to date greatly! Regards, Erick "Merv Porter [SBS-MVP]" wrote: > Well, maybe some leads here... Ok. Time to start clutching at straws... Server service installed and running throughout this process. And when I uninstalled Monitoring services none of them would launch to begin with (hence the re-installation) soooo. . . . After you uninstalled, but before you reinstalled, check: \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\ and maybe delete the MSSQL$SBSMONITORING folder (if it's present). Then do the reinstall. -- Merv Porter [SBS MVP] =================================== "Erick Smith (WSI)" <ErickSmithWSI@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:28D36412-2483-47C8-84E5-57305E53B1A7@microsoft.com... > Server service installed and running throughout this process. > > And when I uninstalled Monitoring services none of them would launch to > begin with (hence the re-installation) soooo. . . . > > As always Merv - Thanks! > > p.s. Hey Merv! Got pulled off for a bit to deal with some other things. I apologize for not getting back to you. I have done all of the things you have suggested in a variety of combinations all to no avail. While not having the monitoring service or being able to repair/re-install it is annoying, I do not think it is 'life-threatening' and am prepared to just punt until such a time as I can do a full install of the os again (shudder!). I want to express my appreciation for the assistance you have provided to date and I wish you well.
