Outlook Web Access

When I try to reply to a message using OWA I can't type my message b/c I get
a box in the upper left corner with a "X" through it. I am running ie7 on
vista on the client side, so I am not sure if it is a browser setting.

All other mail functions are fine.

Any ideas?

Re: Outlook Web Access

This is normally an IE issue and not a server issue. Try the following:

1. In OWA, click on the "options" in the left Task Pane.

2. Under "E-mail Security" and Click Install or Upgrade the S/MIME Control.
This will download a new add-on.

3. Click "RUN" when asked about the Microsoft Outlook Web Access S/MIME
install and security warning.

4. Close and RESTART IE7

RE: Outlook Web Access

Hello Joe,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that on Vista when click the Reply button in
OWA, you get a red X in the upper left corner. If that's not right, please
don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research on this issue, please take the following steps:

Step 1: This behavior occurs because Windows Vista no longer includes
support for the ActiveX control that is used for HTML editing in Outlook
Web Access

To resolve this, install the hotfix in the following KB:

You receive an error message when you try to perform any editing tasks, or
you must click to enable the compose frame in Outlook Web Access
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829
Step 2: Please problem may be caused by IE 7 settings, please reset IE 7
according the following KB:
How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
Also disable all third party Add-ons

1. Open Internet Explorer and click Tools/ Internet Options.
2. On the Program tab, click Manage Add-ons.
3. Disable all third party Add-ons.
4. Try again.

If the problem persists, please help me collect the following information
for further research:

1. Do all the Vista clients have such issue? Can the problem be reproduced
on Windows XP workstations?

2. Please send me the screen shot of red X.

Please send the information to v-robeli@microsoft.com with subject: Outlook
Web Access.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

RE: Outlook Web Access

Hi Robert,

I just bought a new computer with Vista Business installed but have the same
problem as Joe with OWA - can't write text for e-mails in the box as it is
blocked with a small red cross in the top left hand corner. I tried
downloading 911829 but it won't install - I keep getting 1 of 2 messages -
either "The requested operation requires elevation" or "Not enough storage is
available to process this command". Any suggestions as to what I should do
next? Thanks

RE: Outlook Web Access

Hi Chotiwaro,

Thanks for your reply.

I am sorry for the delay due to the weekend.

The hotfix KB 911829 should be installed on Exchange 2003, not on Vista:

I tested if you install this hotfix on Vista, you will get ""Not enough
storage is available to process this command" and the "The task is
terminated". Please try to install the hotfix on SBS server.

Hope this helps.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

RE: Outlook Web Access

Hi Joe,

I am glad to know the problem is resolved. I'd like to make a summary for
this post:

Problem: On Vista when click the Reply button in OWA, you get a red X in
the upper left corner.

Cause: This behavior occurs because Windows Vista no longer includes
support for the ActiveX control that is used for HTML editing in Outlook
Web Access

Solution:

To resolve this, install the hotfix in the following KB:

You receive an error message when you try to perform any editing tasks, or
you must click to enable the compose frame in Outlook Web Access
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829

I'd like to give you additional information for your reference:

For future postings, I would like to list the following information as a
guideline when submitting new posts in the future. This information will
help us to understand the issue and situation more quickly. Thank you!

1. Has the server/client/product ever worked?
2. If so, what changed?
3. What service packs and updates were applied?
4. What are the steps to reproduce the problem?
5. Does it happen the same way on any other systems?
6. Please provide the exact error message with any screenshots, if possible.

If you need any assistance in the future, please feel free to post in our
newsgroup.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)
