Error ID: 1 Source SQLVDI

Source SQLVDI Error ID: 1

SQLVDI: Loc=CVDS::Cleanup. Desc=Release(ClientAliveMutex).
ErrorCode=(288)Attempt to release mutex not owned by caller. . Process=3012.
Thread=8788. Client. Instance=SHAREPOINT. VD=.

Tried to fix with the Hotfix
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;934396. As the
nightly backup begins I'm still getting 30 to 60 instances of this error.
The only suggestions I found are related to the above Hotfix. Anyone have
any ideas?

Danw

Re: Error ID: 1 Source SQLVDI

As far as I know this error can be ignored. I have a few boxes where this
shows up as well. We have been promised a fix but so far that hasn't
happened - at least not that I know of.

Re: Error ID: 1 Source SQLVDI

Hello Danw,

Thank you for posting here.

From your description, I understand that you encountered the event error
regarding SQLVDI when you used NTBACKUP. If I have misunderstood, please
let me know.

Based my research, this issue is a known issue and the hotfix has been
released but it requires your contacting CSS for getting it (SQL Hotfix
50000895).

Note: the hotfix 50000895 is KB934396.

To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a
look at the web site listed below.
http://support.microsoft.com/default...S;PHONENUMBERS

If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for
regional support phone numbers.

Therefore, please call our CSS to get this hotfix, and then install it on
your SBS. I believe it can resolve your issue.

Note:
There is a very similar issue as yours in forums:
SQLVDI error in eventlogs, caused by ntbackup
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sho...94487&SiteID=1

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me
know.

It is my pleasure to be of assistance.

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

Terence,

If you would have looked at the OP's original post, you would have notices
that he already applied that hotfix and it didn't fix the issue. I tried
that one too and it didn't fix it on my servers either. I'm responsible for
quite a few SBS2003R2 with very similar configurations and only about 20% of
them show the error.

Re: Error ID: 1 Source SQLVDI

Hello Danw,

Thank you for Claus's remind. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

1. Please pay attention to the prerequisites of the hotfix:

To apply this hotfix, you must have SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2
installed. For more information about how to obtain SQL Server 2005 Service
Pack 2, click the following article number to view the article in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base:

913089 How to obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2005
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=913089

Note: You can also apply this hotfix if you install the Sqlvdi.dll file
from the backward compatibility update on a computer that has SQL Server
2000 installed.

2. Let's install the following VSS hotfix, and then check if the issue can
be reproduced.

Please contact our CSS and get the latest VSS hotfix KB913648 and install
on your SBS.

A new Volume Shadow Copy Service update is now available that fixes various
Volume Shadow Copy Service problems in Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;913648

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:

1. Do you get any error when you apply the hotfix 913089?

2. Do you find any error in the hotfix installation log
c:\windows\kb913089.log.

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
