| Small Business Server 2008 (yes I do mean Eight) avialability
I saw an article that longhorn has been officially titled Windows Server 2008 [http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/32040/118/]. Does anyone know if Cougar (what I believe is the codename for SBS 2008) is going to be avaialbe at the same time? |

In the past the SBS version has typically lagged about 6 months behind the release of the server product its built on. Of course that's only a rough guideline and who knows for sure for this SBS version as yet. Just to confirm what Steve has said. There is no date being talked about for a release of Cougar and whatever it might be called. Since it requires final release of Longhorn and any other componenets which wind up being a part of cougar. So once Longhorn is released, then MS can begin to project when Cougar MIGHT hit the street. -- Cris Hanna [SBS-MVP] ------------------------------------------------- Microsoft MVPs Independent Experts (MVPs do not work for MS) Real World Answers --------------------------------------------------------- Please do not contact me directly regarding issues "Steve" <newsgroup@public.lan> wrote in message news:e%23YGWuxlHHA.5048@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > In the past the SBS version has typically lagged about 6 months behind the > release of the server product its built on. Microsoft had talked about "SBS 2007" in conjunction with the release of Office 2007 because it announced that Outlook 2007 licenses would not be included in the next version of SBS. I called Microsoft to confirm that fact and the agent also spoke in terms of SBS 2007. The agent specifically told me that the new verson of SBS would be out by the end of this year (2007). Now I presume SBS 2008 will be arriving in 2008. |

Well sir, don't know whom you spoke to at Microsoft, but unless it was someone who is a part of the SBS Product Development team, I wouldn't believe a word of it. The MVPs have a monthly conference call with the SBS Product Development Team, we've had two face to face meetings already this year and will be meeting with them again shortly and There is no indication whatsoever that the next version of SBS - Code Name "Cougar" will be released in 2007. Release of a new version of SBS always follow the release of final new componenet by 3-6 months. Since Longhorn has not yet released an RC version yet and its official name is Windows Server 2008...well its not rocket science -- Cris Hanna [SBS-MVP] ------------------------------------------------- Microsoft MVPs Independent Experts (MVPs do not work for MS) Real World Answers --------------------------------------------------------- Please do not contact me directly regarding issues "Will Fastie" <WillFastie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:8E4AB375-D8BA-4E95-9817-19164F279BB6@microsoft.com... > Microsoft had talked about "SBS 2007" in conjunction with the release of > Office 2007 because it announced that Outlook 2007 licenses would not be > included in the next version of SBS. I don't know who I spoke to at Microsoft, either. I called in on the sales line to get confirmation on the Outlook 2007 license issue, was routed a couple of times, and got the confirmation I was looking for. During that call, reference was made to "SBS 2007" several times and the "end of 2007" was given as the tentative release date. This was all about 3 months ago, around the time Office 2007 was rolling out. But I'm with you. It's clear from "Windows Server 2008" that SBS 200x will be a year 2008 event. |
