| Transfering SBS 2003 to new hardware
Hello! We have a SBS 2003 Server (premium edition sql, exchange, isa server inc) on a small company and about 15 clients (winxp). We want to move this SBS to a new server (with new hardware) because of some hardware failures issues on the old one. This server is acting as AD,DC,Exchange Server,ISA server (2nics) and SQL server.I want to transfer all these to the new server.Do you think that this procedure will do the job: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en thank you |

Hello and thanks for your reply. I've already seen this option but i was wondering if there's another solution from MS?any documentation or something? The solution from MS does not work well and involves actually creating a whole new domain. Lots of down time, etc, etc, etc. sbsmigration is the tool MS should have built. -- Cris Hanna [SBS-MVP] ------------------------------ Please do not contact me directly, only respond in the Newsgroups MVPs do not work for Microsoft ------------------------------ Send via Windows Mail on Vista Ultimate connected to SBS 2003 R2 "msnews.microsoft.com" <jmil@freemail.gr> wrote in message news:uujP55LlHHA.4592@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Hello and thanks for your reply. > I've already seen this option but i was wondering if there's another > solution from MS?any documentation or something? > > "Colin" <Colin@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:7348CB01-FD9A-472E-B64F-82C19A41DDAB@microsoft.com... >> Hi, >> >> You'd be better off looking here: >> >> www.sbsmigration.com >> >> Regards Colin. >> >> "Yannis" wrote: >> >>> Hello! >>> >>> We have a SBS 2003 Server (premium edition sql, exchange, isa server inc) >>> on a >>> small company and about 15 clients (winxp). We want to move this SBS to a >>> new >>> server (with new hardware) because of some hardware failures issues on >>> the >>> old one. This server is acting as AD,DC,Exchange Server,ISA server >>> (2nics) and >>> SQL server.I want to transfer all these to the new server.Do you think >>> that >>> this procedure will do the job: >>> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en >>> >>> thank you >>> > > |

They did. It's standard Active Directory stuff and procedures. Jeff just does the hand holding along the way. just to expand on this a little. SwingIT is a process, basically a 'compendium' of MS KB articles, there's no 'magic' in it. (Both Cris and Susan know this) Anyone with time on their hands can replicate the SwingIT process from MS KB's. In addition to the process Jeff does supply some handy tools and to me _more importantly_ support of the project. An MS support 'incident', which may not deal with any but an individual part of a migration costs more than a single SwingIT project. The part about 'no magic' is significant because though MS will not support the process itself the resulting system is fully MS supportable. The other thing you are paying for in a SwingIT kit is a bit of creative thought. At first glance the SBS limitations suggest mgration is not possible, people knowing SBS know differently. gotta golf, c'ya.
