Installing software on client computers: Local or Domain admin?

Hi all,

When installing software on client computers should the software be
installed using the local administrator account on these systems or by
using a never-to-be-deleted domain administrator maintenance account
(as opposed to a regular domain administrator account, which may be
deleted when the domain administrator leaves the company or some other
such thing)?

Thanks,

Ari

Re: Installing software on client computers: Local or Domain admin?

I've run into the occasional program that needs to be uninstalled by the
account who installed it. This is uncommon and I generally install software
with any admin-level account I happen to be logged in with. Usually, I make
the PC's primary user a local admin, do all the installation and
configuration, then knock the user back to non-admin. This doesn't get by
that rare app that won't let me uninstall if the user has been deleted, so
if that's a concern, you should probably use the local administrator.
Otherwise, whatever works for you.

Windows Installer Cleanup Utility is what you need if a program doesn't want
to let you remove it.
