SharePoint Services 3.0 on SBS 2003 R2

I followed the instructions on the Whitepaper to install SharePoint Services
3.0 side-by-side with 2.0 on my SBS 2003 R2. I already had Microsoft .NET
Framework 3.0 installed. The install of SharePoint Services 3.0 was
succesful. However, the configuration wizard bombed at step 2 of 10 with the
message "Configuration Failed."

The message went on to say it "Failed to create the configuration database.

An exception of type System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was thrown.
Additional information: Could not find stored procedure
'dbo.proc_getObjectsByClass'."

Later in the day Windows Server Update Services downloaded and installed
KB932091, apparently succesfully. Rerunning the wizard yielded the same
error at the same place.

Thanks for your help.

This looks like a SQL problem. Did you just use the default options or
configured to act as a front-end server?

I have no SQL knowledge so I must have accepted the default options (I was
following the whitepaper instructions). I also installed the Windows Update
(WSUS 3.0) earlier in the day and that program uses SQL as well evidently.
Thanks

RE: SharePoint Services 3.0 on SBS 2003 R2

Yes, this looks like an SQL problem. SQL is running WSUS 3.0 just fine. I
have looked for install issue problems regarding WSUS 3.0 and SharePoint
Services 3.0 and have not seen any (but again, WSUS 3.0 was only released
recently). What ideas do you have to get me past this hangup on the install?

I have the same problem under the same circumstances. I updated to WSUS3 a few weeks ago and then recently went to do a side-by-side install of WSS3. I received the exact same errors. We are running SBS2003 NON-R2 SQL2005 WSUS3. Everything is patched and updated.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

Evidently there is a Hotfix, KB 934790. Also see the blog from last week at

http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive...-wsus-3-0.aspx

Always nice to know.
