SP1 error Integrity Update.inf-Make Sure Cryptographic service run

I am trying to install SBS 2003 SP1 and first step is to install W2003 SP1,
but I get a Service Pack 1 Setup Error: Setup could not verify the integrity
of the file Update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on
this computer.
This appears right after the .EXE file is unpacked and even before the SP1
starts to install. The dberr.txt file shows a problem trying to unpack
oem29.cat.

I have tried, one by one, all of the suggestions in Article ID 822798 and
Marc Liron-Microsoft MVP Cryptographic Service Error article in
www.updatexp.com and still get the error.

I have a "suspicion" that the problem is in "Group Policies" as partially
described in the previous writeups and because I also had a problem with most
of the client PCs taking 15 minutes (versus normally 1 minute) to login.

Unfortunately, I am only familiar enough with Group Policy to hunt and peck
at a solution and I am running out of time.

Anyone have any ideas (maybe, how I can "reset" SBS group policies)?

Re: SP1 error Integrity Update.inf-Make Sure Cryptographic service run

First I'd try Downloading the Service Package again,

Then did you try this?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

On the 15min Delay in Logining in?
Sounds like a DNS issue.
(The Primary DNS Server should always be the SBS Box)

When you Type
IPCONFIG /ALL
in a DOS window, you should SEE the IP of the SBS box as Primary DNS

If not, Is the SBS server the DHCP server?

If not, and you have the Router be the DHCP server.
either Turn Off DHCP on the Router
and Turn on DHCP on the SBS.

Or a Around about Fix.
On the Router Point the Primary DNS to the SBS Box
and the Secondary as the Primary's on your ISPs
(The above is ONLY for a 1 NIC SBS Install)

Re: SP1 error Integrity Update.inf-Make Sure Cryptographic service

Thanks for the quick reply, but I should have elaborated: I have downloaded
the 337MB file three times (bad download is not problem).
I uninstalled Symantec Norton Antivirus via Add/Remove Programs and restarted.
I stopped all BackupExec services and I stopped the processes via the task
manager.

The 15 minute logins are fixing themselves magically. (I apologize as I
should not have mentioned and clouded the issue.) Each client PC has a
static IP (The DSBS is the DHCP, but a long time ago I got frustrated and
made them static) and DNS is pointed at ISP SBCGLOBAL (i.e., 12.127.16.83 and
12.127.17.83). Main SBS File Server has 2 NICs and its DNS is 10.0.0.1 (i.e.,
Main SBS File Server). NIC attached to router/SDSL modem is 12.134.21.82
(255.255.255.248), default gateway of 12.134.21.81.

Any more ideas are definitely appreciated. (I can post the dberr.txt and
svcpack.log) if you think it would help (but they are very big).

Re: SP1 error Integrity Update.inf-Make Sure Cryptographic service

Even with static IP's (which aren't necessary), you should still point
client and server DNS servers to the SBS, with DNS forwarders on
server pointing to your ISP's DNS servers. I have been getting the
same cryptographic error with SP2, but suspicion is that either it is
failing because I am trying to update remotely, or, that the package
is extracting to an external HD by default, so I need to change that
and see what happens.

Re: SP1 error Integrity Update.inf-Make Sure Cryptographic service

Thank you for the response.

I am doing it locally; BUT, I noticed that it is unpacking is to a V: drive
(an actual dirve on the SBS server), not to the C: drive, I expected. That
is the only unusual thing I have found and I could not see where I could
redirect it to the C: drive.

Please let me know if you are successful on the redirection. I read (and
followed) the 13 pages of suggestions to fix this, but it has not worked thus
far for me.

P.S. I agree, if you are indicating that Microsoft has this same problem,
intermittantly, on both SP1 and SP2. It also occurs on XP, intermittantly.

Re: SP1 error Integrity Update.inf-Make Sure Cryptographic service

Hi All,

I've just come in on the end of this so can only see this last message, can
someone send me the information refered to, please.

Also for anyone who might be interested I have tried installing Windows
server 2003 SP2 on the same machine and after completing inital tasks
(backup inventory etc.) the install screen disappears and after a few
seconds I receive a pop up appears titled

Service Pack 2 setup Error

Failed to install catalog files

with an OK click.

Any help is desperately appreciated!

Jerry.

Re: SP1 error Integrity Update.inf-Make Sure Cryptographic service run

I am still having a "no joy" situation in trying to install SP1 on SBS 2003 due to the Integrity error. I've tried the fix by David, stopping and restarting the Crypto service but it still will not allow the installer to run. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need Windows 2003 SP2 and SBS 2003 SP1. Check below:

How to install Service Pack 1 for SBS 2003
http://www.smallbizserver.net/Defaul...w&articleId=68

In the procedure, you can substitute Windows 2003 SP2 for SP1 and Exchange 2003 SP2 for SP1. After you're finished, install, update and run a scan with the SBS 2003 BPA to see if it can find any problems:

Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 Best Practices Analyzer
http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/d...displaylang=en

You can even run the SBS 2003 BPA now to get a baseline on your system before the upgrade. Make sure that your server's BIOS is updated for Windows 2003 SP1 and/or SP2.
