Event ID: 40961 The Security System could not establish a secured

We are running SBS 2003 domain with 64x member Server 2003/ SQL 2000 server. Don’t know what went wrong suddenly I started getting the following error message on all client workstations: “The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server DNS/chia.arin.net. No authentication protocol was available.”

Along with this error few clients are also loosing the connection to the SQL Application server of the file server for few seconds. Does anyone here know what is going wrong with my setup and how can I fix it permanently ? Many thanks in advance.

I have also seen this error with many users before as well and there is a hotfix available by Microsoft in KB885887. See this ‘You cannot access network resources after you try to log on to a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer’ http://support.microsoft.com/?id=885887

Thanks for the help Winckle but now the things seems to be getting worse. I have now seen a similar error starting to appear on a few servers I maintain. Can you please provide some KB related to this errors as well?

Well the link provided above is the thing you need to fix that error. But if still you facing the problem than I think there is no corresponding Reverse DNS Lookup Zone/record configured. I suggest that you open DNS console and do the following:

• Open DNS management Console.
• Expand the [DNS Server]\Reverse Lookup Zone, check if the reverse lookup zone configured. By default, after you ran CEICW, system will automatically create a Reverse Lookup Zone but no Reverse lookup record, the PTR record.
• If there is no reverse lookup zone/subnet configured, right click the "Reverse Lookup Zones", select new zone, type the subnet you are in to create a new reverse lookup zone/subnet.
• If there is no PTR record for the SBS Server, please right click the reverse lookup subnet, select "New Pointer (PTR)", type the IP address of your SBS Server.
