| DNS Event 4521 after SP2 on SBS 2003 Std I installed SP2 via WSUS on 2 machines running SBS 2003 Std. Now I have a DNS warning event every 3 minutes. Event ID is 4521: The description for Event ID ( 4521) in Source (DNS) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 9002; .. Has anybody else seen this? Regards Martin |

Quite a few people are seeing some services not restarting upon the first reboot after applying the SP. A second reboot usually fixes this. * I have seen one report from a person who needed to rerun the CEICW after applying SP2. -- Owen Williams (SBS MVP) |

Tried this too, but no luck. The two (different) systems runs without any other problems, only the DNS event fills up. This event 4521 seems to be a new one, eventid.net doesn't know anything and the event message isn't really helpfull. Martin |

Susan Bradley has summarized what the SBS MVPs have found so far with regard to SP2 here: http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/arch...-windows-2003- sp2-release-notes.aspx If none of this applies to you - and given that the event you are seeing seems to be new - you may need to open a case with Microsoft Customer Support Services. Since the problem started after applying a Service Pack, the usual US$245 fee may be waived. -- Owen Williams (SBS MVP) |

I have the same problem after installing the SP2 on a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition (with Active Directory). A couple of weeks passed since your post but I can't see any MS KBA that explains the problem. -- rpr. /Robert Premuz/ |

seems like there are multiple problems with the win2003 server service packs. - should have done the rain dance first. george <rpremuz@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:1178122682.392295.224100@p77g2000hsh.googlegr oups.com... > On Mar 21, 9:58 am, Tom Beekmans wrote: >> Hi I have the same problem on WY3K enterprise edition, it seems SP2 >> problem, >> I think we have to wait for solution from Microsoft. >> Just wait a few weeks and it will be aiviable in the knowledge base. >> SP2 to fresh... > > I have the same problem after installing the SP2 on a Windows Server > 2003 > Standard Edition (with Active Directory). > > A couple of weeks passed since your post but I can't see any MS KBA > that explains the problem. > > -- rpr. /Robert Premuz/ > |

I've found a good advice on another thread (http://groups.google.com/group/micro...ws.server.dns/ browse_frm/thread/5821769b8f2c540). After executing dnscmd /config /BootMethod on my MS Windows Server 2003 Standard with SP2 the DNS warnings stopped. -- rpr. /Robert Premuz/ On May 2, 6:22 pm, "George Hardy" wrote: > seems like there are multiple problems with the win2003 server service > packs. > > - should have done the rain dance first. > > george |
