| Network Printing Problems with Vista Business client
I haver persistent problems printing from a newly connected Vista Business client to my SBS 2003 network. The following sequence of information and messages display: 1. After log-on I verify that network printers are installed under the Control Panel > Printers window. I had downloaded new Vista print drivers for all printers, installed them on the server and on the client, when performing the Add Printer function on the client. 2. When attempting to print, I get the following dialog box message: "Printer is not available, there is no printer installed. Then another dialog biox appears stating: "Spooler SubSystem App stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a status is available." I have not yet received a status from Windows. 3. I open up the Control Panel > Printers window and no printers appear. I have also downloaded and installed all of the SBS 2003 Vista patches required for my client, as described under KB 926505. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I got the same range of errors. I removed the printer from Vista, turned off the user account control in Vista, did the installation again, and it worked! One interesting thing I did discover is that when I set a single PC up this way, and set the IP address to fixed rather than obtain using DHCP, the printer did not print again on that computer until I had enabled it to get it's IP again using DHCP!!! Thanks Gordon. I isolated the problem to my HP LaserJet 2300 dtn printer. The other Ricoh Aficio CL7000 printer is working fine. This may be a problem with the HP Vista print drivers. I have contacted HP and will see where this leads. | Re: Network Printing Problems with Vista Business client
This is the response I got from HP: "Bill, the full printing software of HP Laser Jet printers is not available for the Windows Vista Operating system, we are working with Microsoft and the full printing software will be available at the earliest, however, most of the HP printer drivers are built in with the Vista Operating system itself." So, use the HP Vista print driver at your own risk. Bill "Bill Jetter" wrote: > Thanks Gordon. | Re: Network Printing Problems with Vista Business client
HP manufactures and sells devices. With that in mind, I'm not sure how interested they are in legacy support - I've seen a number of less_than_a_year_old HP printers (home or soho type) that aren't supported fully, or at all, in Vista - and probably never will be. Their business grade stuff seems OK though. -- Les Connor [SBS MVP] "Gordon Keenan" <gordon@tasystems.org(removeme)> wrote in message news:8325CE91-EE75-479D-9235-58DD20278955@microsoft.com... > > "Bill Jetter" <BillJetter@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:DB4E959A-85BA-4C99-8C1E-FA8CA3372B8A@microsoft.com... >> This is the response I got from HP: "Bill, the full printing software of >> HP >> Laser Jet printers is not available for the Windows Vista Operating >> system, >> we are working with Microsoft and the full printing software will be >> available at the earliest, however, most of the HP printer drivers are >> built >> in with the Vista Operating system itself." >> >> So, use the HP Vista print driver at your own risk. >> >> Bill >> >> "Bill Jetter" wrote: > > Thanks for that update Bill, though for a company like HP I find it > incredible that they have not had something being worked on behind the > scenes KNOWING VISTA was coming out. | Re: Network Printing Problems with Vista Business client I have had the same "Spooler SubSystem App stopped working and was closed" message on a fresh Dell/Vista Business install. I cannot keep the Print Spooler service started and sometimes cannot get it to print at all. We have several different manufactures and models of printers on the network and selecting one over the other doesn't seem to make a difference. Before I go down the road of trying to update printer drivers, has anyone found that doing so resulted in XP machines having a problem printing to the updated printers?
