error 530 unable to send mail

Recently we setup a new server with which we are facing some problems with mail. It currently pull all mail down from their ISP BT Internet and incoming is working fine. But when I configure it to send all mail via smtp it gives me the following error message:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

    Subject: test ***
    Sent: 15/05/2006 15:15

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

despatch*******@hotmail.com on 15/05/2006 15:35 There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's
email server. Please contact your system administrator. <onecall*****.co.uk #5.5.0 smtp;530 authentication required -
Your email could not be sent. To fix this you must make a simple change to your email (known as SMTP authentication). For advice visit www.btyahoo.com/smtp or call 0800 328 9968>
As far as I know I think the cause behind this would be password authentication for outgoing which they require but it could also be the fact that the return address comanyname.co.uk is not same as btinternet.com. Am I right? If yes, I wanted to know whether there is any way I can use the smtp connector with password authentication ?

    Thank you.

Yes, you can use the smtp connector with password authentication. And you can do this from the advanced tab, outbound security.

Thanks for the reply and help T.J. I tried entering Username and password for the pop3 sending but still facing the problem. Still I’m not able to send the messages. When I checked the queues it shows a smtp protocal error.

    What now?

Hello, just try calling up the guys who manages the SMTP server you're trying to use as a smarthost, and make sure you know what credentials to use, or any other parameters they require - or find another smarthost. See what they say.
