| Uninstall/Reinstall Exchange Server on SBS 2003
When I try to uninstall Exchange Server, I get a message "Setup failed while installing sub-component Exchange ActiveSync with error code 0X80072030 (please consult the installation log for detailed description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed step again." I have to cancel, retry does no good. I also get the same message about the "Exchange OMA Browser" sub-component. Now if I try to reinstall I get the same message about "Information Store Service". I found a Microsoft tech article (295623) which says to make sure the IIS Admin, WWW Publishing, SMTP and NNTP services are running and that the Exchange services are logging on with the account you are using to install. I have done all that, but no help. How do I get Exchange Server to reinstall on my SBS 2003? |

| RE: Uninstall/Reinstall Exchange Server on SBS 2003
Hello RonWolff, Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup. Also, many thanks for Cris's input. According to your description, I understand that you received the error message "Setup failed while installing sub-component Exchange ActiveSync with error code 0X80072030 ...*" when you try to uninstall/reinstall the Exchange Server on the SBS 2003 Server. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know. To narrow down this issue, please perform the following steps: 1. Please refer to the following KB article to check if it is resolved: 818470 Exchange Server 2003 Setup Returns Error Code 0x80072030 When You Run http://support.microsoft.com/?id=818470 XADM: Exchange 2000 Setup Does Not Work with 0x80072030 Error Code http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;EN-US;287172 Note: This article also applies to Exchange 2003. 2. If this issue persists, please help me collect the following information: 1) Please run 'eventvwr.exe' (without the quotation marks) on the command prompt on the SBS 2003 Server, and check if there are any error messages about this issue, then paste the full context in your reply post. 2) Please locate the Errorlog.txt and Eventlog.txt from the ..\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs folder, and check if there are any error messages noted on this issue, then paste the full context in your reply. 3) Please locate the C:\Exchange Server Setup Progress.log, then paste the full context in your reply. I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you. I have no idea what you are speaking of. It may be good if you start your own thread if some other thread did not answer your question. I cannot recall the last time I uninstalled reinstalled Exchange. Maybe 7-8 years ago.
