Connect Windows 7 to SBS 2003

    Hello,

I’m running SBS 2003 Premium Server since long time. Recently we installed clean Windows 7 on one of our workstations. After installation, I tried connecting the same to my domain, but whenever I try running http://server/connectcomputer/ it just keep prompting me for ID and password and finally ends with this error message:

"The list of users and computers could not be found. Make sure that the Small Business Server network adapters are configured correctly."

My server is not running DHCP or DNS and I think these might be my problem. What you guys say? Please suggest some working solution for the same. Thank you.

Well as far as I know SBS server must be the only DHCP server on the network and must hand out itself to clients as the DNS server. Turn off DHCP on the router... and see if your windows 7 connects to the domain.

Yes, that’s correct. You must use the Domain Controllers as DNS server on your Windows Network. The reason behind this is because Windows domains use DNS extensively to find domain controllers and other services on the network. You also need to configure the domainname for your network, say contoso.local so that when your computer searches for servername it will automatically append contoso.local. You can get more info about the same in this Microsoft KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926505
