| SBS 2008: Losing Default Gateway
Hi, I have a new installation of SBS 2008 that is exhibiting some very odd behaviour. Basically, it seems there is something not right with the network stack. Problems include: 1.)After a reboot, the Default Gateway is gone and needs to be added again. 2.)If I enable VPN server, the LAN is killed within a few minutes. That is to say, if I enable VPN Connection from the SBS Console, within 5 mins all LAN connectivity is lost. The server cannot even ping itself at this point - gets a reply of "General failure". 3.)If I run the Fix My Network wizard after the LAN failure, it comes back and tells me the server IP address is 10.0.0.2 (it is in fact on 10.0.0.1). THere's nothing unusual about this server. Very simple setup... I've updated the NIC drivers. Disabled RSS and Chimney etc. All the usual stuff.... SBS BPA finds no problems.... I'm at a loss. Any ideas? |

Might you have the hyper-v role enabled? Might you have removed IPv6? -- ----------------------------------------------- Les Connor [SBS MVP] "nordberg" <nordberg_73@nospamthanks.hotmail.cmo> wrote in message news:mcjde5l2pab7gvdl6l0iellejg0nvnkicu@4ax.com... > Hi, > > I have a new installation of SBS 2008 that is exhibiting some very odd > behaviour. Does this machine have multiple NIC adapters? Or a dual NIC adapter? -Cliff "nordberg" <nordberg_73@nospamthanks.hotmail.cmo> wrote in message news:mcjde5l2pab7gvdl6l0iellejg0nvnkicu@4ax.com... > Hi, > > I have a new installation of SBS 2008 that is exhibiting some very odd > behaviour. Look for BIOS updates and updated NIC drivers. Especially with dual-port NIC cards, I've seen problems with how the stack gets initialized that causes windows to see the card as a new card and thus reset all of the networking settings. This sounds like what is happening to you. Worst case scenario, don't use the onboard NIC and install a NIC that is on the WHQL. -Cliff "nordberg" <nordberg_73@nospamthanks.hotmail.cmo> wrote in message news:thaee5tfgi231ntf2irjdld6urqtju5nk3@4ax.com... > On Tue, 27 Oct 2009 10:53:04 -0600, "Cliff Galiher" > <cgaliher@gmail.com> wrote: > >> >>Does this machine have multiple NIC adapters? I'm having the same issue. ML350 G6, one NIC, gateway disappears after reboot. Anyone have a solution? |
