| Disable exchange email for one domain user - SBS 2003
Is it possible to disable email access (i.e. Exchange) for one domain user? I have been requested to create a user for one of my client's investors so that (from time to time) he can log in on a spare workstation and peruse files on one particular share, however I do not want this user to be able to send out email. I have managed the access to shares via group permissions, but I'm unsure how to go about deactivating exchange access, or, indeed, if it is even possible to do this. Could anyone enlighten or disappoint me? |

Could anyone enlighten or disappoint me? For SBS 2003, go into AUDC, right-click, Exchange tasks, remove Exchange attributes. That will strip the mailbox from the user account. The mailbox will remain, but unowned until the rentention time has been met, which by default is 30 days, or you can purge it manually in the Exchange System manager. -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. | RE: Disable exchange email for one domain user - SBS 2003 Hello James, Thanks for your post and Ace's input. I agree with Ace that removing the users Exchange attributes by using Exchange task is a good idea. Here is an article from TechNet for your reference: Using Active Directory Attributes to Enable, Disable, and Re-Home Mailboxes http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...EXCHG.65).aspx Hope this helps. When I create a new user that I don't want to have a mailbox, I just use the create new user wizard in server management>users and after I fill out their first name, last name, user name, I erase the entry in email alias. The wizard will warn you that there won't be a mailbox, or something to that effect. That way, I dont have to figure out how to remove the mailbox, and I have used the wizard to do all the work, as is the SBS way.
