WSUS Problem on SBS 2008

I have recently upgraded the WSUS installation on my SBS 2008 server to WSUS
SP2 - ironically this showed as an update on the version of WSUS that already
installed so I assumed that everything would be fine so I approved it for
installation. On installing the upgrade the program stated that it had failed
and had to roll back. After this rolled back I was left with no installation
of WSUS on my SBS server so I decided to run the standalone version of the
executable which seemed to install fine and also asked to use the existing
database which I thought was all quite promising however I am now left with
with an installation that doesn't appear to have the correct database
population and WSUS is no longer integrated into SBS Console. I have had a
search for possible solutions without success however there appears to be a
lot of postings about this same issue so I would appreciate if someone could
help me out on this one and see how I can get WSUS integrated with SBS
Console again?

On the Home page within the SBS Console Updates are showing as 'Not
Available' and the information states that 'An error occurred while
refreshing information about updates'.

When I goto the Security Updates section of SBS Console the it states that
there are no errors, no optional updates and no updates in progress even when
there are updates availble and in progress. Also if I click on the link that
states 'Change the software update settings' SBS Console crashes and asks to
restart.

The problem only appears to be with the integration of WSUS in the SBS
Console as it works fine as a standalone application so something must have
broken the integration when I installed WSUS 3.0 SP2.

The problem of the Console Updates still is showing as 'Not Available' and
when I try and approve an optional update in the Console I get an error
stating that the console has stopped working and needs to restart or check
online for a solution (which doesn't point me to a solution!)

Any ideas as to what is my problem and how to fix it?

Go into the WSUS console and put back in the categories is the biggie
but check that blog post.

Thank you for such a complete and helpful blog that looks like it will solve
my problem. I will not be able to verify if this works until Monday evening.
