| SBS 2008: setting up 2nd e-mail address for exchange
I wanted to setup a 2nd e-mail address to come in for exchange users. I didn't want to run the wizard because the e-mail address we have is working like a charm now (thanks to everyone help here) but the owner wants to use the 2nd e-mail address as his main e-mail...i can't seem to find steps to do this or even if it is advisable. I had the person in charge of the name point the A record at the server IP address, but don't know where to go from there... jared |

Are you asking to ........... John.Smith@domain.com to JSmith@domain.com or are you looking to change John.Smith@newdomain.com for all users? Yes, that is what i'm looking to do...right now it is working correctly for: joe@domain1.com and i want to add a joe@domain2.com to the mix...just for e-mail... jared On Thu, 17 Sep 2009 15:43:58 -0400, "Ace Fekay [MCT]" <aceman@mvps.RemoveThisPart.org> wrote: >"AllenM" <NoReply@NoEmail.com> wrote in message >news:ujxads8NKHA.4964@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >> Are you asking to ........... >> >> John.Smith@domain.com to JSmith@domain.com or are you looking to change >> John.Smith@newdomain.com for all users? >> > >Or to add, add @newdomain.com so Exchange handles both @domain.com and >@newdomain.com? > >Ace > |

I would probably post this in the Exchange NG. I'm not 100% sure of the correct answer so instead of giving you an eroneus answer that may casue you problems I'll just give you what I think needs to happen. Obviously the outside world needs to know about domain2.com. Which means an mx record and A record needs to be put in place. I'l leave it at that and let someone more knowledgable chime in perhaps. . Thanks for the suggestion, but i hesitate to do that only because they are more Exchange on Windows server minded and not SBS minded - so i don't want to get advice that will go against SBS "wizards" rules that might harm my setup... Does anyone else have a suggestion? jared On Fri, 18 Sep 2009 15:17:24 -0700, "AllenM" <NoReply@NoEmail.com> wrote: >I would probably post this in the Exchange NG. Then you create or add to your recipient policy, the new domain name, so it will populate your current user's email addresses. Don't forget, only one of them can be the default reply-to domain. If you don't want all users to have this additional domain name as an email address, you have to use attribute filtering, such as possibly on a department name, etc, which you would create multiple recipient policies. Here's a good tutorial. It's all in here. Configuring Exchange 2007 to Accept Email for Additional Domain http://www.messagingtalk.org/configu...itional-domain Ace |

This is fairly common actually, but since SBS is really for the small business, there is no wizard to my knowledge. Google for how to do this in Exchange 2007 and follow those steps. I've done it plenty on SBS and it doesn't add problems. You *should* be aware of what you've done though and document it thoroughly as some SBS wizards may UNDO that work (such as the fix my network wizard) and you'll end up redoing the process after using such a wizard. -Cliff "Jaredean" <shop@prolook.com> wrote in message news:ka38b51oue40da6dp49h7579nq1v0of8hd@4ax.com... > Thanks for the suggestion, but i hesitate to do that only because they > are more Exchange on Windows server minded and not SBS minded - so i > don't want to get advice that will go against SBS "wizards" rules that > might harm my setup... > > Does anyone else have a suggestion? > > jared > > On Fri, 18 Sep 2009 15:17:24 -0700, "AllenM" <NoReply@NoEmail.com> > wrote: > >>I would probably post this in the Exchange NG. | Re: SBS 2008: setting up 2nd e-mail address for exchange
again, thanks for all the help with this one...i remoted in last night and went through the steps in that article and they were almost perfect...there was one thing that wasn't "sbs centric" in them, in that they ask you to update the policy - they want you to "Select the Default e-mail address policy that you want to modify" Well, in the SBS setup (at least mine) there were two policies in there - "Windows SBS Email Address Policy" and a "Default Policy" So, i did the Default Policy first, because the steps said "default", but felt it was most likely the other one (Windows SBS Email Address Policy"...when it didn't work for the Default one, i updated the other and worked like a charm...i only setup my e-mail to test it and this morning went in to update the others but the policy had already done that for me... jared On Sat, 19 Sep 2009 20:23:56 -0400, "Ace Fekay [MCT]" <aceman@mvps.RemoveThisPart.org> wrote: >"Jaredean" <shop@prolook.com> wrote in message >news:2fsab5dh1ntdph5rnaerf9vlvsk3r2sa44@4ax.com... >> thank you thank you!!! SBS puts in it's own policy, since which the default has basically nothing in it on SBS, the SBS policy applies, so you did the right thing. Let us know if you have any other questions. Ace |
