| Client Setup Wizard Cannot copy file from the server to this compu After installing server the Vista client upgrade patch the users all receive Client Setup Wizard error - Cannot copy a file from the server to this computer. Check the network cables etc. This happens at the end of the login script when the client applications are to be installed. I cannot find anything pertinent in the system or the application logs. -- Chuck |

| RE: Client Setup Wizard Cannot copy file from the server to this compu
Hello, Thank you for posting here. According to your description, I understand that: You receive the error after install the Vista client upgrade patch. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know. It is reported that the improper permissions are placed on the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\clientsetup\clients\setup" folder due to some failed update installations. To indentify whether this is the root cause, you may try to removing the "READ ONLY" attribute from the top level folder "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server" to check how it works. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know. When I attempt to change the read only attribute it is checked but grayed out. I can click it and it deselects then askes if I want to apply to the subfolders I click yes and it went through the files and changed the attributes. I did this on both folders the one in the C drive and the one on the users drive. When I go back to those folders after the change the read only box is checked again and grayed out. If I uncheck it it does not present the dialog to do the subfolders etc on either drive. I logged in as a user on one of the client machines and still get the copy file error. I checked the permissions for the domain users and they were still read only so I checked the full control box on both drive/folders. The parent folder still has the read only checked and grayed out. The permissions setting that I selected stick but the parent folder still has the read only checked. Still get the same copy error. What next? |

| RE: Client Setup Wizard Cannot copy file from the server to this c
Hello, Thanks for the update. As the "Read Only" permission on folders "Microsoft Windows Small Business Server" is inherited from the folder "C:\Program Files". This is the reason why the permissions are grayed out on the subfolders. To remove the "Read Only" permission, you may try to remove the permission on the "C:\Program Files" folder. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know. I found the issue. The client setup wizard put another application setup command in the login script so there were two of them. I deleted the second one and the problem is gone. Thanks for the suggestions. -- Chuck "Duncan McC" wrote: > In article <A71E28C6-24EE-4249-BE5C-7FA63830E9D2@microsoft.com>, > Chuckak@discussions.microsoft.com says... > > SBS2003 latest svc packs and patches.
