Exchange System Manager failed to retrieve queues error 0x800706D9

I have an SBS 2003 SP2

Suddenly Exchange stooped working, there are no error messages in the Event
log.
Users can send anything, servers does not send any of the auto reports, no
new emails are received.

I see following 2 error messages under Queues in the Exchange tree:

1. Exchange System Manager failed to retrieve queues for the SMTP Virtual
Server (error code = 0x800706D9). Check the event log and verify that the
required services are running.

2. Exchange System Manager failed to retrieve queues for the X400 protocol
(error code = 0x800706D9). Check the event log and verify that the required
services are running.

Correction: Users can not send anything, although Outlook shows connected to
Exchange server.

Have you verified that all the services are running, including SMTP? In the
absence of log errors, and if all the services are running, I'd start by
restarting all the services, or just rebooting the server - then recheck the
system and application logs to see if any services failed to restart. You
should get some useful log entries when the services start (or fail to
start).

Re: Exchange System Manager failed to retrieve queues error 0x8007

I've already tried restarting the server, it did not help, and there were no
errors in the Event log after restart.
I also restart the services multiple times and did not find any errors
either. Just restartarted Microsoft Exchange System Atendant, all came back
up without errors.
Just restarted the SMTP service. The last 2 msgs in the event log, after a
number of others (not errors):
SMTP service instance 1 has been stopped.
Teh status of the SMPT service is Started in the Services window.

You've replied to a post or thread that is older than 90 days. The thread
has expired in the microsoft public newsgroups. Keep in mind, that Techarena
works by posting and pulling posts and threads to the Microsoft public
newsgroups, hence it appears they belong to techarena, but they really DO
NOT.

To insure that everyone can read the original post, start a new thread
stating your errors, as well as a little background with what's going on,
event log errors (eventID#s), etc.

It's to your advantage to post to the actual newsgroup instead of techarena.
Besides getting direct exposure to the Microsoft engineers, it's free, no
registration required, you can remain anonymous, etc.
