Exchange error in SBS

I have a problem with using exchange in SBS 2003.

All our company emails are held by our ISP and downloaded every 15 mins. For all email accounts that exist the email most time goes correctly to that account.
But some time, the email will not go to that account and will be send back to the sender with error:
"The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
mspop3connector.existAccount@companydomain.COM on 09/07/2009 11:00 "
And I can found the email in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Networking\POP3\Failed Mail.
Any1 can help me to find out why this mail deliver unsuccessful ?

another issuse is:
I have setup the Undeliverable POP 3 emails to go to a selected user account. but this is never happen.
eg, I send a mail wrongaddress@companydomain.com, which will not be send to that account. and will be send back to the sender. I also could not find the mail in the Failedmail folder.

I check out the appplcation event log.
there are some error and warning:
error eventID 1053
The delivery process for message <id: {500C0A9F-1541-4AD9-BA8D-F272F51ED706}> finished with one or more errors.
warrning 1052
The Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes will reattempt delivery of message <id: {500C0A9F-1541-4AD9-BA8D-F272F51ED706}>. The message was processed previously by the connector but could not be routed to the correct recipient(s). If you continue to see this message, you should reinstall the Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes. To do so, run Small Business Server Setup again, and reinstall the Networking component.

error 1071 pop2connector
An error occurred when Exchange Server attempted to deliver a message. The message is in the SMTP queue.

error 1019
The message download process finished with one or more errors.

error 1023
The downloading process for mailbox <catchall@companydomain.com [mail.companydomain.com]> was ended with one or more errors.

Any help would be appreciate.
Thanks in Advance

Why are you still using the POP3 connector? That is really just
intended to be used for transitional purposes. I would recommend that
you change your MX record to point to your server's public IP address
and have email delivered directly to your server. That will also
remove the 15 minute delay in receiving email.

As Mark wrote, the POP connector is not a reliable means of handling
internet email in Exchange. Host your mail directly via SMTP, the way
Exchange is meant to do.

You would need third party software to do this, and it is not recommended
practice...it is liable to cause you lots of problems down the road. Much
better to host your own mail & avoid having to use a POP connector. See
for instructions on how to
get Exchange to receive Internet mail sent via SMTP, the way it's meant to
do (written for E2k but will still apply - be sure to rerun the CEICW).

If you have broadband but with a dynamic IP (such as a cable modem/ADSL
account), you can use a dynamic DNS host such as - you set up
an account, such as yourcompany.dnsalias.com, and whomever hosts your public
DNS should set your primary MX record to point to yourcompany.dnsalias.com.
Open up port 25 inbound in your firewall or router, direct all traffic to
your internal IP for the Exchange server. You run a service on your server
(software available for download from the dyndns website) and set it up to
update dyndns with your current dynamic IP.

Re: Exchange error in SBS

Thanks for all reply, really appreciate it.

let me explain more our situation:
We don't want host our mailbox directly, because our SBS and Exchange server is running in our office, which is some time may going down.
So we setup a catchall mailbox hosted by our ISP, every 15min our office Exchange server connect to the catchall mailbox.
That means if our office exchange server down, when it back, we still can get the mail we missed.
I m totally newbie in this area, trying to look another option instead of pop3 connector.
Any advice suitable for our situation would be greatful.
Thanks

Re: Exchange error in SBS

Talk to your ISP about providing backup MX service.

Then have two MX records.the main one points to your server.if your
server goes down.then mail goes to them

Or you can look here for the same service

I suggest you try to correct that, so it is not an issue :)

As Cris said, a lower-preference/higher-cost MX record can point to someone
else's server to queue up and spool mail for you. But even without that,
your senders' SMTP servers will retry delivery on their own for several
days, so you shouldn't miss mail.

Re: Exchange error in SBS

Thanks u guys reply.
I had look the "Backup MX records, the main one points to your server.if your server goes down.then mail goes to 2nd"

But it seems if my main server goes down(power off), the mail will not go to the 2nd server immediately. The mail will only go to the 2nd server when the ISP could not find where the main server ip point to. So even the main server power off, but the IP still point to it, so the mail will still go to the main one. That is all what I understood about "Backup MX records", is it right ?

So I m looking for any other connector I can use, instead of pop3connector, such as imap4, or smtp to get mail from remote mailbox to local exchange server?

Thanks again.
