| Server 2008 as Terminal Server - Change location of User Profiles
Hello - I'm having trouble setting up a Windows Server 2008 as a terminal server in a Windows Small Business Server 2003 environment - sort of. My customer bought a Dell server with the drives partitioned as 40GB/300GB. I had no problem setting up Server 2008 as a terminal server and everthing is fine - except the user profiles are created on the "C:" drive - where I know there will not be enough room. I want the user profiles to be created on the "D:" drive. I've tried using setting the user profile in the "Profile Path" section of the user properties - when logging in the profile is still set in the Users directory on C: and it is temporary - goes away when user logs off. I've also tried using group policy - with many different results - none of which works. One piece of additional info - all the users that are logging into the Terminal Server are a unique group of users - and they ONLY log in to the Terminal Server. All the users are in their own container in the Active Directory. How do I configure the server(s) to place the user's profile on "D:" drive. (I've already created a home directory for them.) Thanks, Rick |

Hi Rick: Actually, very little information or data should be stored in the profile. I truly don't see this as a problem. The one folder that might be questionable is the My Documents folder for each user, and you can relocate those. I have not looked, but it might be easier to create a GPO that moves just that one folder on the TS, or if this is SBS, the document redirection wizard should do it. -- Larry Struckmeyer Get your SBS Health Check at www.sbsbpa.com "Rick Edelman" <hokyfan@news.postalias> wrote in message news:%239Mitf45JHA.3856@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Hello - > > I'm having trouble setting up a Windows Server 2008 as a terminal server > in a Windows Small Business Server 2003 environment - sort of. > > My customer bought a Dell server with the drives partitioned as > 40GB/300GB. > > I had no problem setting up Server 2008 as a terminal server and everthing > is fine - except the user profiles are created on the "C:" drive - where I > know there will not be enough room. | Re: Server 2008 as Terminal Server - Change location of User Profiles
Hello, Thank you for posting here. According to your description, I understand that: You want to change the default profile store on the Windows Server 2008 Terminal Service. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know. Information needed: ======================= 1. From the description that you set the Terminal Service profile path D:\ in the user accounts' Properties, I'd like to know whether those user accounts have the proper permissions on the folder that you specified as the profile store. 2. What errors/events is logged on the Windows Server 2008 TS? You may collect the MPS report (PFE version) on the Windows Server 2008 server. The MPS Reporting Tool is utilized to gather detailed information regarding a systems current configuration including event logs. To collect the PFE log: 1. Please download MPS Reporting Tool (MPSRPT_PFE.EXE) from the following link: (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...0eac-720f-4441 -9ef6-ea9f657b5c2f&DisplayLang=en) Please note: The link may be truncated when you read the E-mail. Be sure to include all text between '(' and ')' when navigating to the download location. 2. Right click MPSRPT_PFE.EXE and select Run as Administrator to run this tool, and you will see a Command Window start up. 3. Please type Y with the message of <Include the MSINFO32 report? (defaults to Y in 15 seconds)[Y,N]? 4. When the tool is done you will see an Explorer Window opening up the %systemroot%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\cab folder and containing a <Computername>MPSReports.cab file. Then send the package to me at v-mileli@microsoft.com for further investigation. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.
