| IPv6
I am finding that my CTIW is not funcitoning for me and I have tried everything that I can think of except one thing. I am being told by the wizard that my DHCP server needs to have IPv6 configured. A couple of repsonses in another thread I started on another issue have told me that I don't have to do anything with it or I don't have configure it. I have removed/reinstalled my DHCP server a couple of times and even changed my IP address subnetting from 10.x.x.x to 172.16.x.x. Every time I have reinstalled I have told sbs 2008 NOT to install or configure IPv6 and every time it does. This is my first experience and forray in to learning IPv6. So, my question is this: Does anyone know a good site of information for learning how to configure this? Thanks. Also, here is a screenshot of what my server is telling me. |

In the properties for the SBS NIC, do you have IPv6 checked? If not, checkmark it and re-run CTIW again. You may also need to run the Fix My Network Wizard. "Fix My Network" Wizard in SBS 2008 http://sbs.seandaniel.com/2008/10/fi...-sbs-2008.html In addition, you may waat to install and run the SBS 2008 BPA: Windows Small Business Server 2008 Best Practices Analyzer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en -- Merv Porter [SBS-MVP] ============================ "ahanderson" <ahanderson.3osxra@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in message news:ahanderson.3osxra@DoNotSpam.com... > > I am finding that my CTIW is not funcitoning for me and I have tried > everything that I can think of except one thing. | Re: IPv6
Truthfully, IPv6 is a very different beast from IPv4. The short answer is this though; don't try to manually configure this. IPv6 *is* a fundamental part of all 6.x windows kernel OS's...that is Vista and Win2k8 (including SBS) so when you reinstall, let SBS configure IPv6 for you. IPv6 uses a set of technologies called neighbor discovery and listener discovery to perform address autoconfiguration. This means that DHCP, in the traditional sense, is no longer necessary. So let SBS set up your DHCP server, and don't mess with it. I have *never* found a legitimate reason to manually change IPv6 settings. -Cliff "ahanderson" <ahanderson.3osxra@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in message news:ahanderson.3osxra@DoNotSpam.com... > > I am finding that my CTIW is not funcitoning for me and I have tried > everything that I can think of except one thing. No, I had unchecked the IPv6 from the properties. I will try this now. Thank you. ----------------------- In the properties for the SBS NIC, do you have IPv6 checked? Thanks Cliff. I will do as you advise and not try to configure this myself, which honestly just sounds easier. Quote:
