    Remote Web Workplace and IE7 ActiveX error

    I have some problem with IE7 and Remote Web Workplace, both of the XP workstation and my SBS server are patched with everything from ms update. I have also added the self signed SSL certificate to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities group and set the SBS public address in the trusted sites and set the Internet zone to medium and Trusted Sites to low. I have gone through the custom levels of both internet and trusted zone and enabled everything. I have even removed the MSRDP ActiveX compatibility registry entry from the registry. I am consistently getting the following error when trying to access the client computer connection page in RWW:

    "This portion of the Remote Web Workplace requires the Microsoft Remote Desktop ActiveX Control. Your browser's security settings may be preventing you from downloading ActiveX controls. Adjust these settings and try to connect again."

    I have the Vista compatibility pack installed on the SBS server like I saw recommended in another post but still it doesnt work. I have tried re-registering many dlls as told in different websites but that didnt help either. Any solution would be appreciated.

    Did you try to go into Internet Explorer Tools >> Internet Options >> Programs >> Manage add-ons. After that check the 'Microsoft Terminal Services Client Control (redist)' and ensure that it is set to enabled.

    I followed what you said and found my RDP client DISABLED. I expect you know the rest

    I solved this problem too, but mine was a little bit different. I couldn't find any add-on from MS that I could enable, so I had to google around a little bit and I found this solution:

    "I have since learned that if I go into Internet Options, Advanced Tab and click RESET, the problem goes away. That essentially solves the problem of RWW access but I feel it is a bug. Customers should not have to struggle to find out they need to hit RESET in IE immediatly after installing the OS with XP Pro SP3.

    If you know of other solutions besides RESET mentioned above, I would love to know. Thanks for your help and time!

    You can also try to disable all the IE7 addons and see if that works. I think the problem that I was having was due to a toolbar or Adobe PDF toolbar addon. Incase the RWW then works, then try to put back the addons one at a time until you can see what is the main problem that is causing this issue.

    I have had this exact same issue, and after much searching and testing, I finally solved it with the help of a number of different articles and a bit of guess work on my part, but I thought this may be useful to others.

    In my instance the Microsoft Terminal Services Client Control ActiveX add on did not appear in "Manage Add-on". No matter what I did, I could not get it to apprear. The solution that worked for me was to first add the RWW address to the trusted sites, close IE, and then delete the reg keys listed below, and then re-connect to the RWW, and it just worked

    Remove the following registry keys, if they exist:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{7584C670-2274-4EFB-B00B-D6AABA6D3850}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{971127BB-259F-48C2-BD75-5F97A3331551}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{9059F30F-4EB1-4BD2-9FDC-36F43A218F4A}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{4EB89FF4-7F78-4A0F-8B8D-2BF02E94E4B2}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{4EDCB26C-D24C-4e72-AF07-B576699AC0DE}HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{7390F3D8-0439-4C05-91E3-CF5CB290C3D0}

    and delete any instances you find there.
    Then, as I say, just reconect to the RWW site, and it should hopefully work.
