| SBS 2008 "Migration Wizard" Says SBS 2003 "Isn't SBS" So Stops I am Migrating SBS 2003 to SBS 2008 at a clients location. Everything went pretty well as I followed the V2 Migration Document to the letter; SBS Anayzer looks good, Migration Prep tool ran fine, I generated the answer file, installed SBS 2008 and now want to run the migration wizard but I get an error "The migration wizard only supports migration from Windows Small Business Server". Users and computers are migrated into SBS 2008 AD & all FSMO Roles are on SBS 2008 system but the users do NOT show up under SBS Console. DHCP and DNS are running properly. As expected, the Exchange Management Console shows mailboxes as residing on the SBS 2003 system. The MigrationWizard.log repeats the following entries: 4352] 081231.190914.5909: Setup: Initializing...C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\MigrationWizard.exe [4352] 081231.190914.8717: Setup: Built-in Sid=S-1-5-21-3165639952-2095603548-4287156033-500 [4352] 081231.190914.8717: Setup: current Sid=S-1-5-21-3165639952-2095603548-4287156033-1194 [4352] 081231.190915.2617: Setup: Exiting Migration Wizard since the source OS isn't supported. This error is stopping further forward progress as I don't want to do all the migration steps manually for fear of missing somehting or not having the proper SBS integration. Some other sites I looked up mentioned 2 possible registry issues on the old SBS2003 system. The first was KB 914990 and that registry key does not exist. The other one that other sites mentioned was KB 940318, and that key does exist. (Both on the Source Server). So I don't think these are the issue, but have no idea what is or how to resolve it. Suggestions are welcome! Stephen |

Being this is a holiday, you may not get a lot of response, but if any of the MS Support Persons are on duty today you might have better luck in: microsoft.connect.windows.server.sbs08. Here's a link to the web version: http://connect.microsoft.com/cougar/...i/default.aspx Instructions for getting to the NNTP version are off this page: http://connect.microsoft.com/cougar I have cross posted and am still waiting for a response... In the mean time I have found out how to add AD users to the SBS 2008 console, which is one less thing to worry about. Still hoping for help / suggestions as I have to have their LOB applications up and running for Monday morning. I am having the same sort of problem. How can you add the AD users to the console? |

As per Microsoft: Hello, Thank you for your post. From the problem description of the post you submitted, my understanding is: SBS 2008 Migration Wizard failed with the following error: "The migration wizard only supports migration from Windows Small Business Server. For more information, including supported versions and minimum requirements see the Migration Guide" If I have misunderstood your concern, feel free to let me know. Based on my research, the problem may occur if the source OS is not detected. Please follow the steps below to test the issue: 1. Go to C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Data folder on SBS 2008. 2. Open the info.xml file in an editor. 3. Search for "sourceservertype" and replace "Others" with "Sbs2003" (case sensitive). 4. Save the file with the original name. Then, try to run the Migration Wizard again. Please let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear in my post, please don't hesitate to let me know and I will be glad to help. Thank you for your efforts and time. Glad it helped! Happy migrations! Try using this Guide from Technet. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc546065.aspx Also BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE MIGRATION DOCUMENTS. Source server health really is the the key to a successfull migration. If these fixes from Technet dont help, your best bet may be to restore the source server system state from before the migration, and run the SBS 2003 Best practices analyzer and resolve ALL issues befor proceeding to migeration. I have had to do this a few times myself, its just the nature of these migrations. |
