| incoming/external email can not delivered to user mailbox
Dear SBS-ers, Today I have a strange problem that some incoming/external email from customer can not delivered to user mailbox. When I track the messages via message tracking center, external messages from the sender show the following: ========== SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queueing SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer SMTP: Message Categorized and Queued for Routing SMTP: Non Delivery Report (NDR) generated ========== But still that email has not reach user mailbox yet. I also checked via OWA. Pls help.. FYI : SBS SP1 with exchange SP2, MS IMF antispam on, GFI mail security. I've checked both in IMF and GFI, there is no such email in the quarantine box. Any responses appreciated. Risal |

What was the NDR the sender received? Ask them to forward it to you (to another address, like Gmail/Hotmail/etc). |

I think I have similar problem with this user: http://forums.msexchange.org/m_18004...htm#1800491758 Hi All, I'm having this problem of being not able to send/recieve emails more than 5mb. I'm running Exchange 2003 on Win2K3 server. I've set Global, User, SMTP Virtual Server, connector message limit to 15360kb (15MB). I test send a 7MB email and check the tracking center. Results as below SMTP: Message Submitted to Advance Queuing SMTP: Started Message submission to Advanced Queue SMTP: Message submitted to Categorizer SMTP: Message Categorized and Queued for Routing SMTP: Non-Delivered Report (NDR) Generated. The NDR as below: This message is larger than the current system limit or the recipient's mailbox is full. Create a shorter message body or remove attachments and try sending it again. <mailer.XXXXXX.com #5.2.3> The error from event viewer as below: An error occurred while Microsoft Exchange Intelligent Message Filter attempted to filter a message with ID <D7E34616DB681A44B370531939630C233AC72E@server.domainname.com>, P1 From smtp:XXXXX@domainname.com and Subject FW: 7 mb. This message will not be filtered. The error code is 0x800710f0. For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. Is there anyway to set the email limit to 15mb? |

This is normal for the IMF filter - it "fails" on emails larger than about 3Mb's. Don't worry about this error message. > > > Is there anyway to set the email limit to 15mb? Of course, see the user's ADUC for a change to this user only, or change the default for everyone - the former might be better. Even better, educate the user - all the users if you can. Email's not a very good file transfer mechanism. Seems damn crazy to me to send 15+ Mb emails out! - doesn't it to you? Use a web file drop, or share otherwise (is it internal to internal?). -- Duncan |

| RE: incoming/external email can not delivered to user mailbox Hi Risal, Thanks for your post and Lanwench's input. Due to lacking of enough information, like Lanwench said, please paste the NDR letter so that we can see the reason why your SBS rejected the sender's mail. I would also like to know that: 1. Does this issue only occur to certain external domain or all incoming emails from external? 2. Have you tried add that email domain to your Global Accept List in IMF if you are using Connection Filtering? Based on the current situation, please try the following steps to collect more information: First, enable the Diagnostics Logging to Maximum. Please try the steps in the following article to enable and set Diagnostics Logging to Maximum for MSExchangeTransport services. Then send a test email and after a while, check if there is any warning or error message regards to this test email in Event log. You may refer to the following article for detailed steps: How to troubleshoot for Exchange Server 2003 transport issues http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821910/en-us Second, if the issue can be reproduced, please reproduce it by sending a test email from the original same sender. If possible, we can involve the original sender to help to finish our test to reproduce this issue. Third, if it can be reproduced, please help me to collect the following information: Information Need ============== 1. On the SBS server, open event viewer, please help save the Application and System log to *.evt , compress them and send to me at v-robmen@microsoft.com 2. If possible, please capture some screenshot of the NDR letter and send it to me : v-robmen@microsoft.com Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thanks for your earlier feedback! Hi Risal, Glad to get your update. If you are experiencing the exact NDR as indicated in the link you shared, then it seems the sender is trying to send a large email that is bigger than the size limit of your Exchange server. Size limits for messages depend on various settings. Settings can vary across users. You can customize the settings for the Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 organization, a specific connector, a specific virtual server, and an individual user. For more information, please refer to KB322679 How to set size limits for messages in Exchange Server http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322679/en-us If the issue persists, please let me know whether the issue occurs to all of your domain users or just some of them. Also, does this issue only occur to certain external domain or all incoming emails from external? Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know. I have investigated about this problem and the fact is the incoming mail is bigger than allowed policy and there is no NDR generated from SBS because I disabled it ( prevoiuosly I have unchecked Allow NDR report in message format section) so that customer outside did not know whether email is receive or bounce. To prevent this happen again, I have checked Allow NDR report so there will be a notification rerport if email is not delivered. Kind Regards, Risal |

| Re: incoming/external email can not delivered to user mailbox Hi Risal, Thanks for your feedback. I hope the information I provided could be of any help. I understand that the fact is the incoming mail is bigger than allowed message restriction policy. It's all right to enable the Allow NDR report so that the sender will get notification in case you miss any important business emails. If you have any other concern on this issue or need further assistance from me, just let me know. Thank you for your time and cooperation. Here are some SBS 2003 server articles just for your reference: In Exchange Server 2003 or in Exchange 2000 Server, the Exchange Server queues are filled with many non-delivery reports from the postmaster account because of a reverse non-delivery report attack http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];909005 Exchange queues fill with many non-delivery reports from the postmaster account in Small Business Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];886208 Windows Small Business Server 2003 Technical Training Guide http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsServ...ng/techtrainin gguide/default.mspx Have a nice day!
