Error code: 0x8000ffff - Installing Windows Live Messenger

I am getting some issues installing Windows Live Messenger and I was just wondering if anyone can help me out. Everytime I am trying to install Windows Messenger then I am getting the below error message that says:

"There is a problem with this installation. Windows Live Suite was not installed.
System error details
Code: 0x8000ffff
Description: Catastrophic failure"

How can I solve this thing? Please help.

Are you by any chance having ISA installed in your computer?

I would say to first download and run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility by searching it on the net. After that try to remove the Windows Live Messenger and all of its remains completely. Then try to download the latest version of the messenger and install it. If that doesnt work then follow the troubleshooting guide given over here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414
