| Joining XP Client to SBSR2
I am trying to join my xp pro client to my sbsr2 domain. I have joined my laptop with no problems, but my desktop won' go. These are the steps I have taken. 1)http://Servername:/connectcomputer on client You will need your logon name and password to connect to the Small Business Server network. If the Internet Explorer Information bar says that intranet settings are now turned off by default, follow the prompts to Enable Intranet Settings. You may receive a security warning. Review the warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click Yes to install the software. Note If this computer is running Windows Vista, click Run when prompted to download nshelp.exe, and then click Accept if you are prompted for User Account Control. Connect to the network now 2)click: Connect to the network now then I get the following error message. Client Setup for Windows SBS does not configure client computers that are running this version of Windows. For more information about client desktop compatibility for Windows SBS, see the Microsoft Web site. On the general tab of system properties (rt click my computer) it shows Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service pack 3 That is as far as I get. What am I doing wrong? |

Hello, Thanks for your post and Merv's input. Please check if the problematic Windows XP computer has 1 or 2 NIC, if there are two NIC, please disable the external NIC and also check the DNS settings on the client. Renew the client IP and make sure its DNS server is pointing to the SBS internal IP address. After performing the above steps, please re-run http://SBSserver/connectcomputer to try again. Hope this helps. Best regards, Robbin Meng(MSFT) |

Hello, Thanks for your reply. If the issue persists, please logo on as local Administrator and try to reset IE settings and then join domain again. First, make sure the Windows XP has applied all Windows updates. Reboot the Windows XP client and log on using local Administrator account and try the following steps: For IE 6.0 Reset Internet Explorer settings, and disable third-party Internet Explorer plug-ins. ========== 1. Click Start, Run, type: inetcpl.cpl and press Enter. 2. Select the General tab, and in the Temporary Internet files window, click Delete Cookies, and click OK. 3. In the same tab click Delete Files, check the "Delete all offline contents" box and click OK. 4. Click the Programs tab, and click "Reset Web Settings". 5. Click the Advanced tab, and click "Restore Defaults". 6. Under the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restarting). 7. Click OK and close all IE windows. For IE 7.0 Reset Internet Explorer (IE) & register files ========== 1. Click Start, please type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search bar and press Enter to open the Internet options window. 2. Switch to the Advanced tab. 3. Click the Reset Internet Explorer Settings button. 4. Click Reset to confirm the operation. 5. Click Close when the resetting process finished. 6. Uncheck Enable third-party browser extensions option in the Settings box. 7. Click Apply, click OK and close all IE windows. After resetting IE, please run the Client Network Wizard again to rejoin domain using local Administrator account. Does this still occur? If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please help me collect some information for further investigation: Information Need ============== 1. Check event viewer for related information, please help save it to *.evt and send to me at v-robmen@microsoft.com . 2. If possible, please capture some screenshot when the error messages appear and send them to me : v-robmen@microsoft.com Hope this helps. Best regards, Robbin Meng(MSFT) |
