| RWW: Connectivity to the remote computer could not be established... (Intermittent error)
We are sometimes getting the following error message (even though we have internet connectivity everywhere and the target Client desktops are operational). Connectivity to the remote computer could not be established. Ensure that the remote computer is on and connected to the Windows Small Business Server network. What the heck is going on? I had someone sitting in front of the target desktop client and I connected fine, then a half hour later I get this error message again and cannot connect. Thanks in advance. -- Scalable Computer Services Bill Scala |

Maybe check the event logs onthe server and the workstation to see if you're periodically losing Internet or LAN connectivity on either. -- Merv Porter [SBS-MVP] ============================ "Bill Scala" <webmaster@scalablewebsite.com> wrote in message news:eksIHoOJJHA.1756@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > We are sometimes getting the following error message (even though we have > internet connectivity everywhere and the target Client desktops are > operational). > > Connectivity to the remote computer could not be established. I can connect fine to the server - I just checked its Event Log and found nothing strange. I will have to check the Event Log on the Client desktop tomorrow morning and see if there's anything strange on it. I'll document what I find here tomorrow...... - Bill "Merv Porter [SBS-MVP]" <mwport@no_spam_hotmail.com> wrote in message news:OIZUDvOJJHA.2348@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Maybe check the event logs onthe server and the workstation to see if > you're periodically losing Internet or LAN connectivity on either. > > -- > Merv Porter [SBS-MVP] > ============================ > > "Bill Scala" <webmaster@scalablewebsite.com> wrote in message > news:eksIHoOJJHA.1756@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> We are sometimes getting the following error message (even though we have >> internet connectivity everywhere and the target Client desktops are >> operational). >> >> Connectivity to the remote computer could not be established. May also be a hardware problem, like a bad switch or bad cabling . -- Merv Porter [SBS-MVP] ============================ "Bill Scala" <webmaster@scalablewebsite.com> wrote in message news:eX8hL6OJJHA.4672@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >I can connect fine to the server - I just checked its Event Log and found >nothing strange. You might consider calling the ISP to see if you have a problem from their view, in their logs. Good Guess Merv - you were exactly right. It was rather weird - I had CAT6 cabling from the PC to the 1GB switch, I noticed that it was running at 100mbps instead of 1GB. Turns out someone moved stuff around the office which crimped the cable just enough to cause trouble. After fixing that all was well again. Thank you for your help! This is why users should never be allowed to move, touch or even stare at any computer equipment - they always break something after you have it running perfectly. ;-) Glad you're up and running again Bill. -- Merv Porter [SBS-MVP] ============================ "Bill Scala" <webmaster@scalablewebsite.com> wrote in message news:eArejmaJJHA.4280@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Good Guess Merv - you were exactly right.
